The NY Senate is set to vote on an online poker bill today.

Over in the Assembly, Gary Pretlow has indicated that he won't hold a vote for online poker.

But, this being lawmaking, there are ways to pass a bill without passing a bill; the PPA is suggesting that online poker could find its way into an omnibus bill or a similar mechanism to get around Pretlow's roadblock in the Assembly.

The DFS bill that is also in play in NY creates an interesting dynamic. Super-fluid situation. Hard to think of online poker as a favorite, but it does appear to be in the mix.

NY joining the regulated club would be amazing, I have a feeling once NY (and to a lesser extent, CA) are in state linking will start happening, as there will be increased incentive to link NJ and NY. Let's just also hope there's no bad actors clause.

Assuming that to be true, a state with a self-sufficient player pool could be less motivated to enter into multistate compacts. WTF were you talking about?

Exactly what I was gonna say. I just think NJ/NY are more likely to start talks and get the ball rolling.

No expert on NY politics, It passed only the Senate so far ....BUT it has to pass the Assembly to progress .... and folks in the know say that's slim.

(Two separate legislative bodies, like the House/Senate federally.)

New York State Senate approved S5302D, which would grant 11 online poker licenses in New York, passed by a 53-5 vote.

My district's State Senator, a religious anti-gay nut, is one of the 5. Gross.

Sounds promising. Eventually I see online poker being like the lottery. Being approved state by state and then having player bases combined sort of like the way megamillions work.

take it as 2nd hand knowledge, but I may have overheard a conversation last week confirming it will never make it out of the assembly(poker bill was mentioned), supposedly the assembly woman is very difficult.

so how significant is this? is there actually a chance of online poker coming to NY in the near future?

what is the best case scenario here?

NY Senate controlled by Republicans, Assembly by Democrats. The bill needs brought up for a vote. It could be like US Congress when Harry Reid was gatekeeper in Senate and if the Dems did not like it, they never bothered bringing it up for a vote, even though passed in House.

Any penalty for playing offshore sites from NY if this thing does pass?

Can someone in the know let us know what the realistic chances are of this being brought to a vote in the assembly in the next 2 days? And if it's brought to a vote what chance does it have of passing?

Also if it isn't brought to a vote what are the chances it's passed (with DFS) in a large bill covering multiple issues at the end of the session?

Fwiw I'm from NY and have been e-mailing my senators/assemblymen daily over the last couple days. I would encourage everyone else to do it also, really takes no time and it can only help.

Tweeted and emailed all of them for good measure. Even if they don't want to introduce it as a stand-alone bill it could possibly get attached to another bill if there is enough support. Keep your fingers crossed.

no pro-poker legislation has ever come up for even a committee vote in either chamber of federal congress. you're misremembering history to favor your own republican bias.

Please post the emails at which we may spam the assembly members to pass this. I hope that woman bltch in the assembly doesn't ruin this and NY gets poker back, hopefully within the same player pool as NJ.

Gets the people going!
