http://montrealgazette.com/news/queb...get-highlights

So this is to stop people playing on euro sites and other sites like Bovada in Canada? I'm not sure what the problem with this is though, on a legalized platform this is to be expected I would think.

Why would that to be expected in a legalized market? Does legalized mean no competition?

Doesn't it depend on what Loto-Quebec considers to be an illegal site?

When are they going to apply those changes to the Consumer Protection Act? Should we expect isp to block access in a short term?

If isp really block access to "illegal gambling sites", are we still going to be able to move and play from other province in canada?

In that case, it's not about legalization, but about being licensed in a regulated market.

I don't know any country where legalization didn't come with a regulated market though. Everywhere I know of, legalization ended the open market.

Good thing more Canadians started using proxies in the new year when that law for ISP's to provide downloaders information came into effect.

Loto Quebec owns espacejeux.com and if they also have an invested interest in Amaya and they are the only two 'legal' sites then the usual corruption claims will be made.

I was playing poker in kahnawake heading back to Montreal and they told me the bridge back (the quick way to MTL) was closed because the government is fighting with their poker room.

So if you don't want to play poker in the Quebec owned poker room, you might get rerouted and have to spend 45 minutes getting back into Montreal. But the Kanawake poker room is one of the most comfortable I've been in, shame it was so difficult to get to and from.

If this is the end, I'm still never going to play on Loto-Quebec's joke of a site.

"...the new measure is included in the final section of the budget titled “Curbing illegal online gambling,” which notes that despite the launch of the “legal and secure” Espacejeux website by Loto-Québec...'the number of illegal sites has not decreased and Quebecers continue to visit them in large numbers.'”

Also from http://www.theglobeandmail.com/repor...ticle23657414/

"“This is a remarkable and possibly illegal plan as the government seeks to censor the Internet for its own commercial gain,” Michael Geist, a law professor at the University of Ottawa, wrote in a blog post on the Quebec government’s move.

Mr. Geist said that although Canadian ISPs block access to some child pornography images under an initiative that is not legislatively mandated, “website blocking in Canada has been exceedingly rare.”"

Does anyone know if there is an actual law prohibiting online gaming sites in Quebec or are the media just using the word illegal for effect?

Well we should strive for full legalization then, not a monopolized crony system.

Stars is running dual campaigns with opposite goals between Canada and the US. Sure there's an argument that Amaya is a new owner and can't be looped into the allegations of wrong doing in the US market, but this seems like Amaya is trying to monopolize the Quebec (and perhaps in time all of Canada market) yet at the same time asking the US gov't to allow even competition and open it's doors to foreign operators.
