Seriously having a hard time understanding what they all would have to do for me or others, for me to make a thread about all them.
I have no knowledge of what OP is specifically complaining about, but having played a handful of WSOP events and I think I might understand what he is saying to some extent.
I'm not sure I agree its as harmful as he is implying, but there is a certain level of self importance that is displayed. Honestly though, a lot of it just comes across as people having "a good time" or "goofing off" without much respect to the others around them.
Things like getting up in between every hand and talking/joking loudly to their buddy a table or so over. Its not that its abysmal behavior or anything, but when you get a group of three or four doing it every 2 minutes or so, it may turn off the recreational player who is treating their buy in more seriously and would like to concentrate without a group over their shoulder all afternoon long.
A couple of small examples I can think of off the top of my head. I was in a Stud8 tourney and Scott Clements was at the same table I was. He posted almost zero of his antes. Only if he went to showdown the previous hand. If he folded anywhere before the hand was over, he left his seat wandered to a friend at another table and came back just in time to not get his hand killed. It just struck me as odd that he would feel he would burden whoever was beside him to post his ante every hand. Reminded me of Ivey at the end of the day and how he just walks off without bagging his chips. At least when he does it its only once and he probably tips the floor for doing it for him.
I was at a table next to Mercier one day and it like a party at his table. While I'm not saying that is necessarily a bad thing, I can see how it may annoy people at his table. I'm not sure this outweighs some positive experience others may have though, but I can see how it can be viewed as cliquey and a "cool crowd" etc. With that said, I'm not convinced the latter turns off the average player.
Cliffs: I'm not so sure it is as extreme as the OP describes but I think it is worthy or bringing to their attention
