How many foreign tourists visit Vegas? I think they should be the target group for NBA/NHL team.
I know most of my friends go to see at least one match when visiting US/Vegas.

I realize the NHL is a bigger draw...butttt remember when LV had a CFL team...how well did that go over. LV is an odd place for sports teams and unless they get some big name players right away I am doubtful it will work.

Not really fair to compare one of the four major North American sports leagues that has 30 teams and a multi-billion dollar television deal to the CFL. I enjoy the CFL (I'm a season-ticket holder) and it's a lot of fun to watch but it's absolute garbage compared to the NFL and even college football. They weren't able to sell the product because, quite frankly, it just wasn't a very good product at the time.

That said, the NHL does not need any additional teams. The product has been watered down enough as is.

Las Vegas locals would and have supported a hockey venture, i.e. the Wranglers ..... but that requires a very different price point and demographic than something that would justify a $350MM franchise fee. The Wranglers crowds were largely kids, because their tickets were next to nothing. Games were generally competitive, as hockey, on a minor league level, and as family entertainment ..... the crowd was pretty good at the games I attended.

I'd like to see another minor league team here, but think an NHL team would not do well financially.

Otherwise, watching sports live is not going to get the discretionary entertainment dollar here from locals; the competition for entertainment dollars from locals here is pretty fierce.

(I also think it makes more sense in this market for a licensee to go after the legal sportsbetting business of professional sports fans than the sportswatching business of those same locals. While there may be a tie-in for tourists between live games and betting, I do not think the same appeal holds as a business for the locals market.)

Plus the fact that the Posse played outside in the Vegas summertime.

I'm not convinced that an LV NHL team would be a success, but using the Posse as an indication of anything is extremely ridiculous.

I agree, expansion does not really make sense. Re-locating a team that is hemorrhaging money like the Panthers would probably be the way to go. That would also make the west and the east even at 15 teams in each conference.

Las Vegas will start selling virtual season tickets starting from February 10th. They will have 6 weeks to sell 10K season tickets to see if there's enough interest there.
