I watched this Sunday night when it came on. A few of you mentioned that Mikey Tatts plays. I didn't see him playing at all. It would be odd for the guy running things to sit, right?

I played in an underground 1/2 raked game a few years back where the host dealt AND played. He raked 10% uncapped and would slide chips out of the tray into his stack when he had the nuts when other players thought he was short-stacked, etc, etc. It was a joke. You'd feel like you had won $400 and walk out with like $80.

I'd imagine this is how people feel who play pit games in Oklahoma.

+1

In regards to your question: I have played in games like this. I would still rather play live and with this group of carnival freaks simply because the action in online cash games is horrible. None of this credit B.S. tho with these apes, CASH MONEY BABY. Casino tables are more of a gentlemens environment typically but it can vary, usually folks are on best behavior even if smelly or whatev.

During the first game, Tats was definitely at the table at one point.

I'm from Staten Island and played a lot with these guy's , sad thing is , this is a pretty close portrayal maybe one or two scripted scenes but in the end very close to the real thing. They play 1-2 or 2-5 but there is no max buy in ,people who don't know how to play ,wiseguy's etc throwing around crazy money. Rake is off the charts ,dealers always have their hands in the pot ,taking out for "freerolls'' etc. In short not as fake as you think .

uhh yeah i've played in a lot of home games over the years, and after watching i was pretty sure you could tell the actual poker playing was real.

granted they clearly set up certain parts, like the meeting to collect money where the fish's nephew is with him. clearly there are some degens in this game and clearly the actual game play was real. one thing that troubles me is the fact that running an illegal game is not only recorded, but on television for everyone to see.

would the guy that runs this game not face some **** after this?

Also, another thing that nobody mentioned. is how awful this portrays poker to the average/uneducated viewer. people who have no idea, and tune into this, it makes poker seem really terrible. the part where the guy running the game says he feels horrible 'making a living off of peoples misery' or something along those lines. and then showing the ****** fish continously spewing. that + all the comments and statements made, really portrays poker as a scum/**** operation to the average viewer who doesnt know anything about poker.

thats just something my girlfriend pointed out to me, honestly i dont really care what the uneducated viewer/person thinks about poker. and fwiw, i thought the show was pretty damn enteraining.. specifically the parts where the fish kept donating and playing so bad, and getting angry when he lost. and the part where the one guy bluffs the 4strait board and is called, and is like "i need an ace" and binks it off for what i think was an almost 10k pot.

since the actual poker playing is real, this show is entertaining. would watch more.

As Vicki Guerrero says, "Ex-cuse me." I pointed this out in one of my edits.

if you're a rich recreational player looking for some fun which option would you choose? You could go to a depressing casino, or you could go to a nice house in the hills with good food, good atmosphere, can move over 10k without signing any forms, topless dealers, and if you like...hookers and drugs. Plus the high rake keeps out most pros.

That's why private games run. Plus celebrities or high profile folk don't want to be spotted gambling.

Private games run cause of CREDIT! Its the main reason...
The casinos don't give credit while the guys running the game or the bookie will give credit.

First off.... This is one of my normal home games that I play at. The whole thing is rigged & the owner of the home did not even know that it was being taped because the nat geo representatives had hidden cameras in their glasses. The whole thing is a sham & not only hurting the game of poker due to the fact that this whole show was fabricated. Nat Geo is in the process of being sued for taping and televising the show out of someone;s home that was not even aware. Please DO NOT support nor watch this show unless you wanna watch a bunch of bull****. Breezy is a great player & I play with him all the time. The rest are all pathetic excuses for players.

Not all states offer credit and they're saying CA casinos don't.

Several 5/10s run on Staten Island. I just got home from one. Once again, please don't associate these people w/ what Staten Islanders are really like. This show was an embarrassment & I will part of the individuals suing Nat Geo for what theyve done

i've played in these games and you can't have it both ways.
are you seriously implying everyone knew it was being filmed but the owners? that's not remotely believable.
so if there really were hidden cameras for the games then how is it showing something that doesnt really exist? most of the players they showed play in those games all the time and always act like that. If the cameras were really hidden why would they be acting any differently?
Some of the stuff is embellished or fabricated like the guy showing up with his nephew who couldnt pay what he owed.

People who have never played in NYC underground games wouldnt believe the **** that goes on in these games.

and for the people not understanding how these places can rake so high
its supply and demand
there is so much money in ny -these people want action they arent grinding out rent money at the tables. they dont want to go 2 hours to ac and play in boring games. theyre impulsive and want to gamble then.
the obscene rake keeps most of the pros/tight players away and the action is insane

Ive occasionally seen people the Borgata ive played in underground games who play 5/10 for 20 mins pick up and leave to go in the pit and bet like animals because the game is too boring for them.Theyre used to popping it to 100-150 and having it go 7 ways to the flop. They see nit fests, nobody drinking or talking(or if they are talking discussing things liek hand ranges) so they pick up and leave. Not to mention you can't do coke off the tables in AC and there are no topless massages/hookers.
You know what I've never heard in these games- some nit whose aces get busted crying " how could you call with 86 off for 15 big blinds, don't you know how strong my range is?" they would be laughed out of the game.

whoever said 20x the bb getting called by 63 offsuit makes it fake has never played in these games

Im not saying its the standard, but there are definitely times it happens even more so at the higher games. Ive seen 500 to go 7 ways preflop in 5/10 games with 2-3k stacks. Again it doesnt happen every day but it does happen.

If there's a hell just for poker players, this will be playing on the TV.

I did a search for a lawsuit involving this show and I see nothing.

This. Pretty sure the game Mush went to recruit players from did not know they were being taped. There's definitely gonna be some fallout from this.
