Are the NAPT and Daniel Negreanu renegging on an open shootout at NAPT Mohegan?

I was excited to see that NAPT would have an open 10K high roller shootout to be televised on ESPN2. The $25K shootout "invitational"at Venetian was also filmed for ESPN2, but was basically an advertising venue to promote Pokerstars players and a few selected players.

Daniel Negreanu said this system would no longer be used and that this event would be a $10K open to the public at The Venetian in April.

Heres the quote:

Quote:
For those of you that did play, I hope you enjoyed the event as much as I did (albeit briefly :-) and I look forward to seeing you at the NAPT Mohegan Sun. ALL of you will be able to play in that one!

The bounty shootout there will be a $10,000 buy in event with no cap on the number of players. It will also likely be played in three heats. We won't know how many handed each table will be until we have a final number of players. NO one will be turned away. Even if 131 players enter, all will be seated. That does mean not all tables will start with an equal number of players, but it is completely random so the fairness issue is, well, not an issue.

I really think the bounty shootout is going to gain in popularity, not only with the players, but with viewers. That's right, the NAPT Mohegan Sun event will also get tons of coverage on ESPN2. The main event will be on ESPN2, as will the bounty shootout.
Apparently the event has been switched back to a $25K invitational again. The only justification I can see for this, is to ensire that Pokerstars players are again featured on the Televised feature and final tables.

The NAPT site still lists this as a $10K open shootout.

Thier rep on this forum is leading me to believe it will be an invitational $25K with a cap.

Quote:
Todd - I'll have the final word on the Bounty Shootout later this week. There has been a lot of discussion about this particular event since the success of the Venetian BSO.

It does look like we are going to cap the filmed events (which includes NAPT MS) at 100 players to guarantee they will be 2 day events. Also looking like we will run all of the filmed events as a $25K buyin like NAPT Venetian.

I'm in communication with Rilan and everyone at MS this week as we work out the last kinks of this event. I'll have an update (incl. structure, payouts, etc...) for everyone later this week, Friday at the latest.

Cheers,

I really hope Stars backs down on this one and leaves the schedule as is. The NAPT should be an open tournament, not just an advertising venue for Pokerstars and their pro players.

Sure, but don't mislead players with posted schedules on your website, and assurances by your top pro.

So you're saying over half the players in this "invitational" were Stars Players?

In what universe is 14 out of 49 players over half of the field?

I don't know why you decided to run to NVG to post this when there's been plenty of discussion about this in both MTTC and Tournament Circuit about PokerStars and/or Mohegan Sun reversing their stance on the buyin and "invitational" format.

Is it not possible that the top poker site on the planet also has a lot of the top poker players on the planet signed to them? If so, is it not reasonable to invite their own players to an event sponsored by them?

Wow, what a soft field. Chainsaw would obviously have an enormous edge in this event and should do everything he can to get invited to it.
