Re: My 2 cents on Poker Stars and Shortstackers

Non 50BB tables - Number of shortstackers:

Just randomly opened 9 of the non-50BB tables at 5/10 6-max. 6 or 7 of them had 0 or 1 shortstacker on them. 1 or 2 tables had 2 shortstackers. One had 3 shortstackers.

On one of the tables I wasn't sure if one of them counted because he had 50BB's and I had some pretty donkish stats on him from a limited sample size from lower stakes.

So I really think it's 7 out of 9 tables with 1 or fewer 'traditional' shortstackers of the type that is probably rat-holing and trying to 'take advantage' of the system as it were.

Granted, this is later in the evening and not a sampling at the same time that leatherass was complaining about. But I was pretty surprised by these numbers. I didn't see a single table with 4 shortstackers. And then consider that there are plenty more tables with essentially 0 shortstackers that specifically tell you exactly that with a little "50BB" designation.

It is possible that I just happened to catch a bunch of tables as the ratholers were switching over or had just left or something.

So, basically, his entire post is an inaccurate and useless rant. Nice.

Because someone who has made hundreds of thousands of dollars from online poker found something he can't exploit. Poor baby IMO. Pretty sure the buy in standards for online are mostly in line with brick and mortars do also.

Like Microbob said play at the 50 BB tables.

Or you could just insta sit out and encourage all your high stakes buddies to do the same and give a shortstacker no action.

But I still don't understand blaming the shortstackers for the problem here when half of the tables have ZERO shortstackers because they are 50BB tables.
Microbob,

I appreciate where you are coming from when you happened to look at the tables, but I what I can't understand is why you looked at the lobby AFTER I wrote this and assumed that the games were the same as a few hours earlier when I wrote this. These games are changing, evolving and can look drastically different in any given hour than they did the hour before.

Fish wanting to play postflop is exactly why tournament poker never took off.

Re: My 2 cents on Poker Stars and Shortstackers

Eliminating the players who are afraid to buy in for 100bb and completely suck at poker sounds like an incredible idea

The games have changed over the years, maybe learning how to adapt is something to consider?

Weren't you/aren't you a shortie yourself? Or just when you played higher than 1000?

this is adapting - nonstop complaints is exactly the reason why 50bb tables exist. though i really doubt the sites are going to do anything more because their stance ever since has basically been "hey, we gave you some 50bb tables, now just let us collect the shortstack rake in peace"

Re: My 2 cents on Poker Stars and Shortstackers

I like to shortstack the 50bb tables. It's like I'm almost happy to whittle down to half a stack because then I get to play 25bb unexploitable +EV $$$$ LAG squeezin good times and I have a shorstack monopoly at the table.

Re: My 2 cents on Poker Stars and Shortstackers

I think the reason people may not want to join nlhe game is that it's extremely boring to play. Just imagnie you want to have fun and play 1/2 tables. Every pot is like : raise/fold/fold/fold. Raise/fold/fold/fold. Raise/3bet/fold. You will have interesting decision once every 20minutes or so.
If you don't believe it's the reason play some PLO. Plenty of recreational players there. Plenty of guys with 80+% vpip on table from 2/4 to 10/20 every day. Why ? because the game is fun to play and you don't have to fold to have a chance.

Solution for nlhe ? Make it pot limit ante games with minimum amount to start a hand at 100BB. Just get rid of old style tables but again nobody is going to make such a decision cause nobody cares about games being fun to play

EDIT : btw i think it's the main reason HU table hurt 6max games. They are simply more fun to play for recreational players
