6/17/2011 6:10:35 PM PST (about 3 hours and 33 minutes ago) Folding Aces Preflop? Only At the Seniors Event

We overheard a few players discussing an extremely interesting hand that occurred earlier in Day 1 action. Apparently, one player was holding A A and faced a raise, a reraise and a four-bet shove in front of him. Normally this is the type of situation that poker players only dream about, but for this particular competitor in the Seniors Event, something just didn't feel right.

According to the dealer involved, the player showed her his pocket rockets before throwing them into the muck. His remaining opponents showed A A and Kx Kx between them and after a king-high flop, the other man holding the best starting hand in hold'em hit the rail with bad beat story to take home.

The player responsible for making the mother of all laydowns later told the dealer that "he knew he was up against aces and kings," so in his estimation "he had no outs" if a king hit, and was merely playing for a chop if has hand held up. While folding pocket aces before the flop may redefine the term "unconventional play," the move worked out for this brave soul and he loved to fight another day.

incidently, this is why i never play pocket pairs, you only have 2 outs vs overcards.

He could even be facing guys who's range may even include unpaired cards or even queens! That may be stretching things but it is possible!

Ha ha I hate that feeling where you're getting too much action with your aces and you know it's not going to go well for you, think i'd rather the bad beat story than fold though.

Quite funny he owned up to it rather than keep it to himself, think of the fun you could have on that table knowing that.

lol

obviously a bad fold, not like that is up for debate.

There are some very rare spots were folding AA preflop is the right play though, like in a satellite tourney were top 2 win the same prize and while 3 handed, both your opponents go all in with equal chip stacks. Folding AA preflop there guarantees the prize.

oh so when both players show AK and chop the pot they just give you 1 of the 2 seats, then they play heads up for the 2nd seat

right?

impossible!

Read the op! It was an old geezers event. There's no way there will be two allins with KK with those old nits. The one guy would be all in so the 2nd guy would lay down KK. So in this case, the first all in was KK, the second all in was AA, and the original old dude was right in his read but still a pretty -ev fold when they are chopping KK's stack like all the time but a few.

But anyway, no way he's facing two KK's, those old nits only one would be KK, the other is always AA.

Chainsaw folded AA to a 3bet in a WSOP event because it was close to the bubble and he was going for the record for most cashes.

Incidentally, the guy that folded the Aces is the current CL.

Spoiler:
No he's not.

Kind of reminds me of the guy that couldn't fold KK to Hellmuth and Beth Shak when it was OBVIOUS at least one of them had AA.

Never been an easier spot to lay down Kings.

Obviously, the proper play when two players are holding AA against KK is for the two players with aces to high five each other like Beth Shak and Phil Hellmuth and motion to the rail that they have aces while the guy with KK calls anyway.
