Something almost subliminal happened in my brain and I thought this would be a good NVG topic starter.

I don't think anyone has ever suggested or thought that the most influential poker players were the biggest winners.

Negreanu and Jcarver, hands down. Jason, became influential only very recently though.

Dan Bilzerian. Inspiring 18-30 year old Bro-fish to seek poker fame and fortune. Getting in bad most of the time, helping the good players maintain a living.

Ivey, Durr, Dnegs. I used to watch all these guys on TV and want to win money like them.

Probably the most influential thing I ever saw was 2006 Horse final table and the coverage of Daniel at 2007 world series where he was literally naming everyone's cards.

you can put this into a conditional logic statement, both ways fail and it is not true.

IF you are a big winner THEN you are influential - most of us would agree this is not the case. Just look at someone like Pius Heinz.

The reversal is also not true, IF you are inspirational THEN you are a big winner. Well that fails for a myriad of examples.

They took it too far. Like Hendrix inventing the extended guitar solo, which led to Yngwie Malmsteen's Arpeggios From Hell. So everyone started listening to drum n' bass.

I remember Gus Hansen's WPT wins seeming pretty influential at the time, as an early demonstration of aggressive play to the casual home viewer, showing one didn't need to wait for a premium hand.

Too many to list, I think, and some fit in multiple categories. But just off the top of my head...
Inspirational: Just about any Main Event winner, plus Negreanu, Ivey, Hansen and Dwan.
Strategy: Doyle ("The book"), Sklansky, Miller and Malmuth (the books), Galfond (the videos).
Shaping the future (or having a big impact on the evolution): PokerPROductions, the Scheinbergs, the lawmakers, the software makers.

Isai and Mark Scheinberg were the biggest winners, amayarite?

Pius appeared in German main stream media after his ME win, something no other pro poker player did before or after him.
