We already booked at the Taj, but I'm having doubts as to if I should even visit AC at all. I wanted to play some poker there, and visit a few of the casino's, but with all the negativity towards AC on these forums, I don't know If I'm to believe everything, it seems as if AC is a total run-down slum where we're gonna be mugged on each corner, and get our rental car jacked.

How much of this negative press is actually worth taking into account? I know about the murder at the Taj parking earlier this year, but I would assume security was ramped up a bit there now, no?

it's okay. it's seriously not that bad.
that thing at the Taj was HORRIBLE, but isolated.
back in my slight degen days i slept in the parking garages of a few different casinos a time or two (most people won't admit that, but many do it, esp in AC ) and everything was fine.
Taj is okay place, not great, but safe. The inside of ALL casinos there is very, very safe. You have nothing to worry about on that front. Outside could be dicey, I'm sure, but it's that way outside of every casino, AC or Vegas or wherever else, for obv reasons... but you're not going to be wandering outside at 3 am, are you?
And no, your rental car is not going to get jacked. Stay in AC near the casinos; it will be FINE.

Just remember to go to the Borgata FIRST, it's the best casino in the world! (Can you tell I love it? )

Good luck, and have fun!

Re: mood in Atlantic City "awful"

p.s. the Tropicana has a great poker room, too. The Taj will give you pinkeye from the chips or something.

this is exactly what it is, LOL.

and, shill for the borgata?!? hahaha, no. I WISH. they don't need people to do that. use a little thing called 'google' and you'll see that people overwhelmingly LOVE Borgata because, well, it's the newest, nicest, and the best. best poker players/most money there total, as well. so.

None are impressive? Borgata and Water club are better than all the casinos/hotels in Vegas.. or at least everything they had when I went 2 years ago... palazzo, venetian, bellagio, MGM, caesars, etc

The reason we chose the Taj over the Borgata, is because it is right on the boardwalk. But seeing as I hear mostly good things about the Borgata, I'm gonna take it up with the missus
No free parking. It was free for a while years ago and they hotels got togther and added a pricde for it.Sso, from Philadelphia. You get 4 for the bridge, 4 for the expressaway, 5 to park and 10 for gas. the bogata offers you a 85 table poker room, but after that, Delaware Park is a better place to play then Harrahs, or any of the others. I've played them all and only the Borgata has anything over Delaware Park except the drinks.

Re: mood in Atlantic City "awful"

idk why people are bitching about AC being ****ty? Just realize that walking away from your casino at night is risky and don't do it. I mean why do you go to AC.... you go to gamble, maybe do a little shopping, have a nice dinner, and hit the beach (yes its ****ty) and hit the boardwalk.
BTW whitehouse is pretty good but idk if i would say its amazing and a must visit. The borgata fatburger is amazing though and not eating it when visiting AC is a bad idea because it was one of the best burgers i've ever eaten (wish i had 2 before my ride home).

People aren't bitching because they can't deal with it. This thread us about how AC is on a downward slide. They need to be more tourist friendly to stay afloat in the face of new competition. How about a nice tv ad that says, "Come to AC and just don't walk away from your casino. Quit bitching."

Re: mood in Atlantic City "awful"

I have slept in my car at the Taj parking garage a few times. Never had a problem. I also have walked the streets outside of the casinos after dark and it is a bit shady but just act like your not scared and you'll be OK

Has anyone ever stayed at the Sheraton? It looks like about 1/2 mile from the Boardwalk. Is it reasonable safe to walk or is driving better?

Sheraton is reasonable and right next to the outlet for convenient shopping and dining.

Safe and fast walk to Caesars. To get to the Taj by walking it takes roughly 20-30 minutes from Caesars.

If you want to go to the Borgata you'll have to drive or take the Jitney ($2.25) for 15 minutes.

Outlet and casino streets are safe. Boardwalk is relatively safe. Streets further away from the boardwalk, you're treading deeper waters.
