You need 4 or 5 million IMO to retire which I doubt he has. http://blogs.cardrunners.com/Timex/w...o-go-from-here (Link to blog)
4-5 million you can retire (carefully) if you've invested conservatively.....this dued doesn't have that much....with that said you can't blame a guy for taking the $ and running...he got himself a nice headstart on life

Re: Mike McDonald (TIMEX) Quits Poker

gl mike. fwiw this reads to me as more like "i'm getting older, poker doesn't excite me as much as it did when i was 16, i'm going to take some time to think about how much time i want to spend playing, but i realize i'll probably always play poker to some extent."

expecting to play 10 WSOP events isn't exactly quitting poker....

oh, and yes, timex will obviously win the next EPT he plays.

Re: Mike McDonald (TIMEX) Quits Poker

Comments from people with $152 in their checking account about how much is needed to retire always make me LOL

You do not spend that money, you live off of the interest and investment returns. If you have $1,000,000 and can figure out a way to return 12% on it - you have $120,000 per year before taxes. Apply some of that to the principal for inflation and some to taxes and you should easily have $4-6k per month to live off of - that is essentially retired.

If you have methods to save on taxes or save on living expenses you can even do it for a lot less. Anybody who says you can't retire on $2,000,000 has no idea what they are talking about. Again, you do not do the math based upon how much you will spend per year and subtract that from the total - you never, ever spend the principal amount - only the income it produces.

Is there an nvgtard cd that can get me 12% interest? I feel like that would come in handy.

EPIC FAIL!

I'm in my 30's and I'm really surprised you really generalize people in this age group like they are all one way or another. When I was in my 20's I busted my ass so I could build a baseline to earn a six figure income relatively passively for the rest of my life. I accomplished that by my late 20's.

I know many other people that built a foundation to very successful lives and careers in their 20's.

Timex is obv no exemption. I don't know him personally, but he has been very successful and simply doesn't enjoy poker as much anymore. Why should any millionaire do something they don't enjoy ?

The point of having the money is TO ENJOY freedoms in life.

gl mike - don't think we've ever met but i'm both glad those movies resonated with you and sad i havent made anything that really shows how awesome poker can be yet :-( still, i think you're making a really tough and probably good decision, lots of luck man, hope you find what you're looking for.
