Doubt it's from a tourney but this guy won $303k at The Bellagio this month:

Money was cashed out at Cosmo, which is how they identified the guy. Guess Cosmo didn't have very many $300K cashouts last night.

I do like this line from the story:
Quote:
The man arrived at the office in sweats and a T-shirt to reclaim his money, but he didn't have any identification.
So typical for a poker player. Forget $300K--check. Sweats--check. T-Shirt--check. No ID--check--I mean, who would expect to need ID to claim $300,000 in cash?

Above story says cabbie hasn't gotten anything from the guy, but was promised a reward.

No, otherwise there would be already 3 threads in NVG by different people who randomly googled "300k lost in a cab" with a 2000 words explanation of Haseeb on the first page of all of them.

Why do you think it's a poker player? Cosmo doesn't have poker.

theory: the people saying the taxi driver is stupid for giving it back would get caught in 5 minutes if they were in that situation and go to prison

It would not be easy to find $300k in the cab that you are driving, keep it, and get away with it.

the article states it was a prominent poker player who forgot the money. Said he took a cab from Cosmo to Palms Place.

There can't be that many poker players staying in Vegas at this time of year with $300k.

Oppenheim? Robl? Unlikely to be Bilzerian as he'd have his mug all over that article if it was him. Thought games were pretty dead there now.

Well whoever it is would be a gambler considering they cashed out 300k from the Cosmo.

Since the person took a cab and took that much cash instead of chips, I'd guess the person doesn't live here also (does Palms place have Condos and rentals?)

Don't know, but he damn sure would never walk around in sweats with no form of identification.

Viffer is the best guess so far.

This got me wondering who actually legally owns the money in NV once it is left in the car. I seem to vaguely recall something from Property class about intent to abandon but I think it varies state by state.

Also, if the money is still the property of the guy who left it in the car, does the cab company have any liability for its employee's theft? Clearly this is not the first time valuables have been left in a cab so there must be some standard way to handle it.

Any lawyers or other knowledgeable person want to fill me in? Just curious.

Yes, I'm a flaming, hopeless, nerd.
