Matusows book and drug testing for the WSOP

Mike admits dozens of times throughout his book that taking the "Ritalin" prescribed by his doctor for his ADHD (Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder) gives him a huge edge whilst playing poker. He says the drug elevates his consciousness and sustains his focus at superhuman levels for long periods which gives him the ability to do so well. He takes this drug legally and regularly now and is making big money.
Taking any form of mind altering chemical - legal or illegal- in the tournament surely arena gives those with them in their system an unfair edge over those self medicating with blueberries , yoga or just a good nights sleep so I think we should demand routine drug screening before awards of final table bracelets and money at the WSOP. If you read what Mikey says and then start thinking about some of the characters who have made their fame and fortune when they might have been "enhanced" isnt it a very unfair playing field for 7 weeks of what is a mind sport .
I dont believe it is fair that somebody who has an illness is given a medicine which can elevate their poker game to a standard which cannot be attained unless they are ill. By all means allow him to be medicated to lead a happy normal life but is the diagnosis of this condition a through ticket to $$$$$$$$$$$ .

So...you want them to test for a legal substance that someone obtains legally and then ban them from participating?

Forget about the WSOP...have you ever been to AMERICA.

Re: Matusows book and drug testing for the WSOP

Methylphenidate is the most commonly prescribed psychostimulant and works by increasing the activity of the central nervous system.[13] It produces such effects as increasing or maintaining alertness, combating fatigue, and improving attention.[8] The benefits and cost effectiveness of methylphenidate is well established in the short term treatment of ADHD. The benefits and cost effectiveness of methylphenidate long term are unknown due to a lack of research.[14][15] The long term effects of methylphenidate on the developing brain are unknown. Methylphenidate is not approved for children under six years of age.[16][17]

Mikey can´t be taking that.

Let's play the "think before you speak" game...you go first genius. You're seriously speaking of screening for legal and/or prescription drugs? I'm assuming that you would want the person who has to take nitroglycerin pills for a heart condition to also be excluded from winning $$$ b/c the nitro allows the person to maintain a somewhat regular heartbeat?

Nahhh, poker is like the all-drug olympics. Uppers, downers, whatever you want. It's a level playing field because everybody's free to enhance themselves any way they see fit. And this way, we don't have to go through our version of the steroid scandal.
