Re: Hellmuth making a run in the $5,000 Six-handed No Limit Hold'em

Why do people like Hellmuth look at only one card then raise when they have a lot of chips all the time? There can't be any advantage to it other than not wanting to give away any tells because even you do not know what your other card is. Hellmuth deep and playing for a bracelet and he isn't even looking at both of his cards before raising preflop from UTG.

Phil Hellmuth had raised a couple of hands in a row, then put in a small preflop raise to 25,000 from under the gun. It folded around to Andrey Zaichenko in the small blind who quickly shoved all in for his whole stack of a little more than 200,000.

Hellmuth then said he was apologizing in advance for the slowroll, but he had apparently only checked one card before raising. The first card had been an ace. And when he checked the second one -- jackpot! Another ace! Hellmuth immediately called, turning over his {A-Hearts}{A-Clubs}. Zaichenko then tabled his cards -- {K-Spades}{Q-Hearts}.

And then came the flop... {K-Diamonds}{5-Hearts}{Q-Diamonds}. Two pair for Zaichenko. The turn was the {4-Clubs} and the river the {J-Diamonds}, and Zaichenko is now at 415,000. Hellmuth slips to 150,000.

Hellmuth followed the hand with thoughtful, carefully worded analyses of the relative intelligence of his opponent as well as the dealer. He punctuated his commentary with a final comment regarding his own commitment to the present competition:

"I'm playing for my life here!"

At the end of the hand Zaichenko should have said "i can dodge bullets baby"

because just the ace there is good enough to raise. its the same reason if the sb shoves and you are in the bb and see an ace you instacall most spots, because it doesnt matter what your other card is

Like A7offsuit is good enough for an UTG raise deep in a tournament? I guess if his table is tight... his raise is only 2.5BB's

its 6 handed. he can raise 23o there. most of the time people will reraise or fold. if he gets reraised then he can look, just because he raises doesnt mean hes committed.

Deeb Out in 26th

Following a hand in which he'd taken a hit to his stack, Shaun Deeb ended up all in with {A-Clubs}{9-Clubs} against Rory Mathews who had {A-Hearts}{J-Spades}. The board ran out {A-Diamonds}{8-Spades}{7-Clubs}{J-Hearts}{K-Spades}, and Deeb goes out in 26th ($22,157).

Oh, sorry about that - entirely missed that this was a 6max tournament, I just started following. Yeah the play is completely standard there.
