A. Quit when he's up 100-150K
B. Quit when he's stuck 100-150K

Quoting from last months thread.

Yeah, I know his name too....and that's quite a low from being considered the best NLHU player at the height of his career and playing every comer on FTP.
It's not about "needing" to play on FTP, it's about having been hurt so much psychologically that you can't take battling with the best on a daily basis anymore.

It's pretty well-known that he went on a 4 million $ downswing that really affected him psychologically and basically went for the big fish in a small pond syndrome.

If you can't understand how emotionally devastating such swings can be, I guess that you've either never played poker seriously enough to have a downswing or that you're like Urnot and never steam.

Either one, real
Lars actually can't play on full tilt any more though because he lives in Monaco and signed up for fulltilt.fr and now he can't login to the old full tilt because it says he's based in France. He thinks it might be a good thing though and is apparently winning this year, despite being a large amount under EV.

sick.

Then again Isildur ran 3.5 million under ev versus Burger Hastings in about 5 hours so not like Isildur is considered a lucky player

Why is febs thread already closed? The ending needed a bit more love

This is completely besides the point, I don't understand how people can in good conscience make these kinds of arguments.

Lars disappeared from the FTP nosebleeds way before the whole FTP.fr debacle became a problem, only last year.
Obviously, for a player that rich, playing on FTP.com shouldn't be a problem.
Doesn't PA live in Monaco? Doesn't Gus?

That's cearly not why he took a step back from the craziness of FTP games at that time.
I have a lot of respect for the guy, he's obviously a very talented player. I was making a point about the psychological damages one can incur when hitting a huge downswing against top/dominating opposition, end of story.

Foldemlow:
I'm not denying anything you said, just wanted to say that Kelopuro is probably not the best (most extreme) example of devastating downswing breaking player's confidence... He is still doing really well, despite not playing nosebleeds against best players in the world. There's people like Haseeb Qureshi, Grimstarr etc. that pretty much ended their career with a huge downswing and dozens of 2006-2007 nosebleed players are playing midstakes nowadays.

And when I say "there's no need for him to play FTP" it doesn't really contradict anything you said... He feels uncomfortable to play at FTP because he got crushed there + he has no need to play there anymore (if he stays out of nosebleeds) = he doesn't play at FTP.

I'm not making any kind of argument. I'm just saying this is why you don't see him on full tilt now.

He wasn't making excuses. It's not like Lars/Sami is saying he'd be crushing the nosebleeds if he was able to login to FTP.com. Just that he had some login troubles, but considering that he's finding good games elsewhere and he hasn't won big in FTP since like 2009, why even bother trying to get back on FTP.com right now.
