He said no one at The Borgata told him he couldn't enter. LOL

Type "man wins ladies poker tournament" into Google and see how many links comes up. LOL
Good to see a balanced article come out on this. Just a shame pokernews has zero journalistic integrity.

Officials at the Borgata Hotel were moved, as well. They decided to have a new trophy made in recognition of Rowe being the last woman standing in the ladies' tournament. And the hotel is donating $5,000 to the Komen breast cancer foundation.

Once again the Borgata proves to be the best, classiest joint in jersey..

so i read that article and if i read correctly... poker news is going to hold a poker tournament for NICOLE ROWE specifically? There are many people that struggle with cancer everyday that play poker and DID NOT just win 11K....

This whole thing is ridiculous... I really feel bad for her with the cancer, but as much as this guy exploited the MAN TILT... she was exploiting her "cancer" during the whole tournament... the women slowplayed her the entire time... she was quoted for giving advice about receiving regular mamograms at the table... IT IS A POKER TOURNAMENT.

and NOW poker news is going to hold a poker tournament FOR HER???? How about poker news holds a poker tournament for cancer research? If this woman didn't have cancer would we feel bad that she got second? what if she just lost her job? Im sorry but at the poker table, your life shouldn't matter... your chips and cards do.

Sorry if this sounds callous but its the truth. There are many cancer survivors who are in DEBT because of hospital bills, bad health insurance and such.... and ALL of them didn't just win $11,000. Call it what it is and move on... enough is enough.

THIS was a classy thing to do. Notice how they took the 5K and donated to a foundation and NOT Nicole Rowe?

Notice how they didnt donate anything to testicular cancer.

Seriously though, the douchiest thing to come out of this is how pokernews is milking this for all the publicity they can get.

I think the article says he is also donating his winnings to breast cancer foundations as well.

The AOL article notes that Nicole is an optician at West Point, I assume she has insurance to cover the procedures?

Also adding the following from the Borgata blog:

Quote:
From both a legal and regulatory standpoint, NJ Casinos (which includes Borgata) must allow anyone who is over the age of 21 the opportunity to participate in all events. As such, when the "man" insisted upon gaining entry into the tournament, Borgata had no option but to allow him to participate. (FYI, the “law” referenced above is the federal anti-discrimination laws. Regulatory guidelines require NJ Casinos to permit anyone over 21 to enter into any such gaming event offered.)
Today is the Seniors (50+) event at the Borgata, how many players under 50 will be trying to enter?

its not discrimination based on illegal stuff like gender

its "discrimination" based on being an employee

Why would you want a men's only tournament? lolol.....seriously why?

There are many reasons why there can be a womens only one, are you people deliberately being obtuse?

this thread does a great job of reinforcing the stereotype that the majority of serious poker players have little to no social skills and a moral compass that is way out of sync with society as a whole.

let's address the stupid points that people have made one by one.

- "ZOMG WHY ISN'T THERE MEN'S ONLY POKAR TURNAMENTZ IF DERE IS WIMMINZ ONLY ONES????"

because there is no demand for men's only poker tournaments. yes, idiots are all too quick to trot out this crap when something like this happens, but if you ask everyone who's said something like this if they have ever actually seriously suggested hosting a men's only event to a casino (or wherever), they won't have, because they don't really care. plus, 'normal' poker tournaments are invariably almost entirely men's only events anyway. the stupid "WHERE R MY MENZ ONLY EVENTZ" is an argument of convenience only.

- "OMG WOW A POKER PLAYER IS ONLY CONCERNED WITH EDGE AND EV WAT A SURPRISE!!!"

well yeah it's not surprising. that doesn't make it any less stupid though. even putting all moral issues aside, was his decision a smart one from a common sense perspective? he's apparently a pro poker player, so his face is out there in front of the whole poker world now. do you think this is going to do his career harm or good? when someone googles this guy's name, guess what's gonna come up? yeah, half a dozen articles on why he is a giant douche. i know it's not an issue as far as having to look for a job is concerned seeing as the guy is 60-something and apparently a pro poker player, but the information is out there and open for viewing by family, friends and anyone else who may be of importance to him.

- "ZOMG TEH WOMAN WAS BEING A DOUCHE BY RAISING THE WHOLE CANCER ANGLE AT ALL HER TABLES!!!"

from what i understand, she was merely trying to raise awareness. even if this isn't true, if people softplay against her that's their problem. in any case, by assuming that she's mentioning the cancer as some kind of angle-shoot you're doing just that - assuming, whereas no grand assumption like this is needed when it comes to captain superdouche's actions.

- "ZOMG TEH WOMAN WANTED TEH TROPHY THATS WHY HE REFUSED TEH CHOP!!!"

i don't really see why any chop the money and play for the trophy deal wasn't possible here. i dunno, i guess they're both at fault for not coming to this rather obvious compromise. again, all assumption though.

there you go, a post detailing why all you old guy white-knighters are idiots without even mentioning how morally deficient the whole episode is.

this is such stupid BS. women fight for the right to be treated equal and then have to have they own poker tourney, way to take a step backward imo. whats next a tournament for fat people?

So, by this logic, if my wife and I vacation with several other couples that's okay, but when the guys all go on a fishing trip together and the wives go somewhere together (or just pick a house and they all stay there), that this is taking "a step backward"?

I hope that now that the dust has settled the legal department at Borgata is busy making sure this does not happen again just as they were able to ensure that the Borgata Babes (f/k/a “beverage servers”) get to stay ALL FEMALE.

I just don’t understand how it is legally acceptable to hire only women who are only hot yet not allow women only to play in a ladies’ tournament.

Time to earn your keep Borgata legal department keep the ladies only events just that LADIES' ONLY event and seniors’ events SENIORS. Work that legalize and find the right words to correct this situation.

it's true; the best bbq joint in all of NC is located about an hour and a half from me, and they didn't start allowing/serving blacks until 1983.

Do you often have random members of the public come and join you on your fishing trip?

I think the are classified as models or talent or something but just as an FYI there are at least 5 male servers at the borgata that i have encountered.

While they can't prevent him from signing up i think they could have made it really hard for him to play. Guy was a douche, floor should have returned the favor.
Stand behind him and call any and all penalties they can on him, for verbal things, exposing cards, anything they can get him on. Have him change tables frequently, it is their right to break tables/move players at their own discretion. Just make it really hard for him to play. Not sure what recourse he has if this line was taken but something i would have considered.

I think Borgata staff obviously didn't want him to play but knew they couldn't prevent it and figured that out of 270 people what are the odds he wins and didn't expect him to win.
