Re: Man wins "ladies" champion at Borgata

Good for him for taking down a tourney with poker players in it.

Re: Man wins "ladies" champion at Borgata

Am I 100 miles off to say that the main reason put forward for these tournaments is that women feel intimidated in an open tournament, but when this man goes deep in a women's tournament, they all get pissed and try to intimidate him ?

Re: Man wins "ladies" champion at Borgata

read like 1/3 of the first page and this point wont go home in NVG cause everyone here is a socially retarded misogynist: i have spoken to several girls who feel belittled, berated and patronized at every poker table they play at. sexual innuendos and ppl muttering "****ing bitch/whore shouldnt even be allowed to play". just constant hostility. i can imagine its kinda nice to not have to deal with that bull**** and just relax and play cards. why would anyone be offended by this?

Another thought occurred to me on why the Borgata should have risked the lawsuit and booted him from the tourney: When news of his entry became public there will be MORE guys getting the idea to do this. It probably didn't even occur to most people that they wouldn't be thrown out if they tried to enter a ladies event.

Chances are decent that Borgata avoids this nonsense by ceasing the ladies event anyway.
Borgata considered the risk of lawsuit very seriously and went as far as considering the pros and cons of the publicity as well...I would have preferred if they stood their ground and let the DUDE sue as I believe there is no such thing as bad publicity...and whether they would have won or lost, well this could have taken years to determine. But given the current environment, I am not sure if anyone want to spend large sums of money in legal fees to prove a point...

Its highly unlikely that they will cease having the ladies event. The house collected over $10000 in entry fees alone on this event, not to mention the other money all these ladies spent in the casino that day/night. As long as there is a good turnout for the event, Im sure it will continue

It's especially offensive because he's taking advantage of case law that was developed BECAUSE men discriminated against women for hundreds of years.

Ideally an additional law would be passed to allow ladies, seniors, etc. events. But I doubt it's on anyone's radar screen.
This is a ridiculously bad argument. Also, there were men involved as part of title IX movement. Men were prohibited from certain women facilities and grants.

I find it offensive Americans can't move past anything. America has by far the BEST sports system for women. If I have a daughter she will most likely go to university in America if she is an athlete.

I think everyone needs to grow up and realize it is ridiculous to make blanket laws with no common sense. Women want to have their own event? Great, men shouldn't be allowed. Black people want to have a tournament that bans all chinese people....well that crosses the line.

There shouldn't need to be a law for common sense. That is what judges are for.

Re: Man wins "ladies" champion at Borgata

Lets just break the whole world up by gender, race, and even throw in some religious events.

Exclusiveness promotes discrimination.

I like the point made about feminist getting what they wanted.
Well now deal with it!

NO! You can't have one with out the other!
It's either all good or it isn't.

DN got branded a racist for asking about a WET(white entertainment network).
You don't see an ASIAN only network...what if there was a white only poker tournament like the black only on BET...ZOMGpokerstoveimplodedonkeykongshove

There's a White Power TV station I remember seeing on satellite channel lists. If I want the comedy of white power enthusiasts I just troll stormfront or watch Jerry Springer.

America likes to use blanket interpretations of things, especially like the 2nd amendment. Should you be prevented from having a gun? Not really, but should everyone really be allowed to own a handgun? In most European countries the police usually don't carry firearms, and there is way less gun crime. I think this is a better outlook...

The same applies to the European outlook on gender relations... Discrimination based on gender is frowned upon even more than in the USA, but I am pretty sure you could have a ladies only tournament here. Not respecting other genders is just as bad as discriminating against them.

They had a mess of a situation here. Getting sued for millions is a risk that can happen at ANY time. That doesn't mean that you take it realistically. If a casino wants to throw me out then they throw me out. If I want to scream discrimination because I can't get reservations at their top restaurant they don't suddenly decide to boot somebody else and seat me because "OMG...he might actually sue!!"
So you don't think their concern for the possible lawsuit should be a function of how likely they would be to lose? Riiiiiight. So they just ignore all possible threats to their establishment because "OMG. People can sue for ANYTHING!". lol.

If this went to court, they would lose. Pure and simple :P Why on earth would they risk the possible hundreds of thousands or more in total costs of the lawsuit just to keep a few smiles on the faces of the women?

Oh go have a great day. How exactly does sugesting that women should compete on the same level as men signal a hatred of women in your mind. You really are such a giant wonderful person.

Is anyone else getting annoyed at the continuous characterisation of male poker pokers itt as surly chain smoking loud mouths, who love nothing more than intimidating poor little women that might dare to sit in their presence.

Of course, you realise events like these reinforce this behavior as acceptable and indicates that the women are wrong to be offended by this, right?
