Hey folks,
A bunch of people have been telling me to respond on the 2+2 forum regarding your comments about our show, "Living the Life". Here I am, ready to take the anticipated abuse, but would much rather answer your questions and comments. A little about me...as well as working as a producer for the last 8 years, I am an avid poker player, both online & live, and have been fortunate enough to be a winning player throughout the years. As someone mentioned in this thread, yes, I do play a $70 afternoon tourney regularly at a local club, but I've also played lower & much higher stakes as well. Poker is poker, and the money is still green. As a player myself, I can tell you that nothing would make me happier than to make an amazing poker show and movie.
Firstly, I am prepping a poker movie, THE GRIND, to shoot late this year, which I think most players will appreciate. On the same note, I have to be able to appeal to the vast audience of non-players as well. The fact is, I'm tired of seeing father and son going to the WSOP and they end up heads up with a straight flush vs. royal flush....?!?!? Also, as seen in another poker movie, you cannot spot someone across the room and put them on pocket 66 based on the fact that they scratched their nose. That's absurd.
Regarding our current reality show, LIVING THE LIFE, we’re categorizing this as a lifestyle show more than a poker show. Networks in general are very scared of the word poker, and outside of specific networks like GSN, GameTV, Spike etc., most networks just don't have an audience for poker. On the flip side, many networks have a huge audience for reality TV. Apparently, only about 0.6% of the reality TV audience will already know and follow the game of poker. With those stats its very tough to gear the whole show towards poker players. This means that a whole new group of people, male and female, will want to start to become poker players. All you grinders out there will be happy to know that you'll be getting a whole slew of fresh fish at the table to help pay your rent. I'm confident that just based on the fact that you'll be seeing your world that you know and love, you'll be able to relate to the material on screen more than most.
As for Trishelle & Amanda, regarding your thoughts about them from their previous shows, please try to put that aside. This is a new show, a new concept, and a new world. I assure you that they are both at the tourney to make it as deep as they can and make as much money as possible. If you're at their table, please don't hesitate to try and bust them out, as I have no doubt that they'll try to do the same to you!
If you have any further thoughts on the trailer, or what you would like to see in the show, please don't hesitate to post them here.
Best Regards,
Josh Kimmel
