I would like to announce and up and coming 4th card house in Austin, Texas with a completely different aim.

https://gyazo.com/8e39cc70d2a7d202a585976f5d33ae7d

We will be spreading games as low as .25/.50 with a max buy in of 100 as well as running 40 rebuy tournaments. Of course there will be 1/2 tables uncapped as well, but the goal here is to protect the casual player and help expand the poker community. We will have poker group meetups to discuss various poker topics etc.

We also want to expand the lowest stakes Pot Limit Omaha game around. Omaha can be a disaster for the first timer at 1-2-5 and we plan to have a .25-.50-1.00 bring in Omaha game. The seat rental for this lower stakes will be 5/hr for the first 6 months as we build credibility and a customer base. We want you to come into a filled room with plenty of choices!

The site will have 100+ parking and is a stand alone Plaza capable of expanding to all 15000 sq ft. Initially we will only have 10 tables and 1 suite roughly. The address is 1900 E Howard Ln, right between Austin, Round Rock and on the edge of Pfluggerville.

https://gyazo.com/1205b89df46a03fa54174c7f97ec3210

The place has 25 foot ceilings and lighting accents that remind of Winstar Casino. We are going for volume. We are going for recreation and providing the community a service and safe harbor for low stakes play.

All questions, suggestions and comments are welcome.
When are you planning on opening?

A pic of some chips and a pic of a vacant building with a description of the lighting.

Looks like this club is well on its way😬

So what am I likely to find if I check out the Plano location on a Tuesday / Wednesday evening? Like a couple tables and all 1/2 or 1/3? Any info is appreciated.

Wow so there will now be FIVE separate legal venues in Austin:

- Texas Card House South
- Texas Card House North
- Throne Poker
- The Prestige
- Chisholm Trail

From one room to five almost overnight, crazy!

We really need to get all these rooms to start using Bravo - does anyone know what the process is? Can any venue be listed on Bravo or do you have to officially be a licensed casino?

Bravo is part of a casino networked software - I don't believe you can get a license for them for non-regulated operations

Hrm... that's what I thought, bummer. Throne at least has a live feed on their site of what tables are running and how many players, I wish Texas Card House would do this as well.

Yes interested to see if the player bases grow at the north spots or if it's going to thin them out.

When there are 5+ locations open in DFW and the Chickasaws start asking why nobody is visiting their poker room and what kind of impact this is having on their other games. When someone puts one in Denton that will probably be the death knell for these rooms. Will be interesting to see how it plays out either way though.

Austin is so geographically separated. North is North and South is South. There is little crossover due to the massive geography.

It's the same for real estate. So separate and distinct markets.

Yessir been here since 93 and my south of the river friends like to be clear about the N/S divide

I'm talking about 4-5 of these rooms up north competing against each other.

And as for the Okies worrrying about the growth of these... I think you'll have some rec players that think these rooms are "more expensive" because they see the hourly and fees but don't realize what they spend in tipping/rake/bbjp at the casino because it all just magically disappears.

Maybe Dnegs is right more rake is better?

And wow... Just saw lonestar poker in Houston post that they are doing away with the seat fee and it will be a $25 one day membership fee only for as much as you want to play that session...

One of the things that I find most interesting about the new rooms opening up North in Austin is that they don't seem at all concerned about getting a location in the ETJ.

I know when I was looking to do this last year I was insistent on finding a property in the ETJ, which really narrows down the search area. The TCH North location, Throne, and Prestige are all in Austin Full Purpose area - that means full permitting plan review/approval required for the business and you must state the establishments intended use as part of that process. So I wonder if the new rooms jumped through these hoops and if so what use-type they applied for, or if they just skipped it and are hoping the city inspector and/or fire marshal doesn't decide to shut them down for invalid permits. There are some businesses that decide to go the "ask forgiveness instead of permission" route but it's very risky as you can get shut down for months without any notice if the inspector gets pissed enough.

Yes I was wondering about their location choices as well

Good point, but location matters. Location relative to the DFW population base is the reason that Winstar is the largest casino in the world and Choctaw isn't. Location is the reason that Winstar has a packed poker room all weekend long and why the lone 2/5 game at Choctaw was 5 handed last Friday at 8pm.

Right now these "legal" poker rooms mainly cater to 1/2 and 1/3 players. If more rooms open up in DFW it will be interesting to see if any try to run more 2/5 games. The Winstar 2/5 games are filled with players that play there regularly (regardless of skill level). Word of mouth about legal games in the metroplex (with low rake relative to home games) could eventually leave the Winstar 2/5 game looking more like Choctaw.
