Andy Abboud of Las Vegas Sands confirmed to Gambling Compliance that current Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and House Majority Leader John Boehner are discussing ways to deal with Internet poker. “I know they’ve had some discussions to some degree about when legislation could move and the need to address the issue. It’s just not clear as to when the timing will be,” Andy Abboud told GamblingCompliance at this week’s Florida Gaming Congress in Miami.

Here's a story about the GC article: http://www.dailypaul.com/329362/inte...bling-cronyism. The GC article is behind a paywall, at http://www.gamblingcompliance.com/pr...gress-convenes.

From the GamblingCompliance article:

Quote:
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid of Nevada and House Speaker John Boehner of Ohio met recently to discuss how to deal with Internet gambling bills in Congress, according to the chief lobbyist of Las Vegas Sands.

“I know they’ve had some discussions to some degree about when legislation could move and the need to address the issue. It’s just not clear as to when the timing will be,” Andy Abboud told GamblingCompliance at this week’s Florida Gaming Congress in Miami.

Abboud said the conversation between Reid and Boehner occurred “in the last month or so,” but he did not know if they discussed plans for a hearing on legislation to ban Internet gambling...

Thx Engineer for posting.

If by some tragedy this type of law passed... what would that mean for current legal sites in NV, NJ, Delaware? Would they be allowed to continue operations but with no chance of expansion?

We're getting support there. Yesterday, Campaign for Liberty came out publicly in strong opposition to an online poker ban: C4L Strongly Opposes Online Gambling Ban

Also, Ron Paul was on my webcast two weeks ago:

That being said, we're looking for supporters of all political persuasions.

As written, RAWA would result in a federal shutdown of these licensed sites.

Wouldn't President Obama have to sign this in order for it to go into effect? Only way he does that is if it's attached to some must-pass legislation, right?

If the feds have the power to shut down Intrastate online poker, then they have the power to shut down Intrastate gaming period. Sheldon better rap his head around that. And every state with a lottery better too.

MAD. Mutually Assured Destruction. We need to make it crystal clear if online poker is so evil, all gaming is. Even better, lets use civil forfeiture laws. Lets push for the next time an underage party is found gaming in a casino, the government seizes it. Shoot next time the V gets busted, will grab Sheldon's dozen Boeings and Gulfstreams too.

The only way it goes through the lame duck is attached to a broader bill. As it would be bipartisan to pass, it would pretty much have to be a "must pass" type of bill.

Gross, can't he just die already. Jesus.

I will never understand this, wouldn't you want to push for legislation so you could get in the market, leverage all your properties and rake in some more cash. Unless you're stupid.

We poker players are capable of winning this. We either come together for a lame duck stand or we don't. Defeat is not inevitable. If we all lose, it won't be because it was unwinnable.

If I were going to make a picture, if would be one encouraging a fight back, not one mocking those who are.

Is there any chance some move towards legalized sports betting would help igaming's chances in the US? NBA's Silver recently said it should made legal at a federal level, so if such a law were to pass then wouldn't the industry become too big resist/ shutdown?

I'm cynical political process, He is just one person, we are many and yet it seems as he winning in his campaign against online poker. the pic is a dark humor imagination on how Sheldon is viewing our attempts.
And IS meant to inspire people to stand up to it. It's not pro Adelson!

Wouldn't Harry Reid be trying to block this for his overlords? I don't understand why he'd be making a deal at this point? In a few months when he no longer controls what comes up for a vote I could see him being cornered by why now?

Is there a better source for this? An OP on that forum seems hard to trust based on the first reply.
