Re: Jean-Robert @ the Wynn

he isnt paying you vig. he isnt a good friend. his presence doesnt make the game any softer (if anything, it makes it marginally tougher given how bad the guy spewing apparently is). and you will never be able to use your generosity to get loans from him in the future, because he'll never have any money to loan you.

even if you're 100% sure that he'll pay you back, i dont see what you get out of this transaction other than a story to post on 2+2.

This thread is gold. I'd pick up where Shane left off but I don't want to hurt anyone's feelings. Bobby's a good guy, and I hope you all keep lending him money so the rest of us can win it.

+1. As SOLELY as B&M live cash game player, I believe the old adage of poker players being apart of a trusted brotherhood of lending each other money and making good on it is obsolete and a great way to blow up your bankroll. To begin with, it's usually a terrible investment since you're loaning money to a losing player. Besides, just look at the current American economy and you'll understand the perils of easy money and fast and loose lending and borrowing. Is Jean-Robert a worthy exception? No. In fact, it should be even more of a red flag when a well-known player is constantly asking for money.

As Shaniac said, good luck collecting.

JRB is good for getting you into a trendy club on a busy night and not much else. Whoever thinks the 'brotherhood of poker players' exists is living in a much different reality than the rest of us.

Re: Jean-Robert @ the Wynn

I think loaning cash to someone who has money but does not have immediate access to it (and you know this for a fact) is perfectly ok IMO.... the bonus being that if you were in the same spot said person would help you out.

loaning to what I call the "poker room junkies" is a very very poor choice for all reasons stated above.....

Seems like OP is willing to do anything to make a new friend. This is just pathetic more than anything really.

I love it when someone starts a seemingly innocuous thread and winds up on the bottom of a huge dogpile.

The way in which we wrote that post makes me think that is was a sick joke, but he appears to be banned now (probably from that comment).

I remember watching JRB on a WSOP event a few years back, I think it was a circuit event on ESPN or something where he came pretty close to winning. He came off as a little bit of a dbag but not that bad, he seems like a pretty cool guy from what I could tell, and just from randomly browsing NVG most people should know that JRB is notorious for getting loans. It seems like he has paid them all back though, so I probably would be willing to loan him a small sum of money in OP's shoes like he did. I really don't think he would scam somebody, especially for a few thousand?

Re: Jean-Robert @ the Wynn

it's the kind of charity you can only anticipate in a B&M environment, since online people would be quick to scam and flee to the land of the anonymous

i can understand why people loan JRB money, I just wouldn't do it for the sheer inconvenience

Re: Jean-Robert @ the Wynn

I've seen more people asking for money in B&Ms then I have on rails online.

If you can't figure out a polite way to say no, you're going to get hit up for cash almost every time you leave the house.

I'm happy to say that the only person that I've ever given money to (that hasn't been a close friend) has been Cowboy. Because, well, that guy is awesome.
