This is my post on the rogan forum:
Joe's questions about poker are identical to every drunk girl I've talked to about it. I'd be at a bar, I'd make the mistake of telling her I play poker for a living, and then the same barrage of inquiries would commence.
I yelled at the screen for Joe to not interrupt Ike while he was thinking of an answer haha. I enjoy a nice pause, it shows that the person cares about how they are responding. Ike mentioned on the 2p2 poker forum that he is working to improve the flow of his speech.
Having said all that, I got choked up at the end of the podcast. Before poker I was lost in life. And once I got good at poker, I realized all of my hard work was not being overlooked like it continually was at other jobs. I was making a living for years playing poker and I was very proud of myself and I finally had a little bit of self confidence. Then Black Friday came. It is the day the USA government shut online poker down.
The reason I got choked up at the end of the podcast was because Ike made poker players look good. I was proud to be a part of this community. When he spoke of being in the present moment by filtering thoughts away that are about the past or the future, it really hit me hard. Joe was correct. Poker is just like life.
Joe would dominate at poker if he got into it. Yet just like video games, he is afraid to begin, because he may become totally immersed. Poker is just like jiu jitsu in that the masters appreciate the details and creating a solid foundation. Once that is established one can then use creativity on their opponents.
Thanks for having Ike on, and let us know when you play a little more poker Joe.
