Gus Hansen and it's not even close.

I really just want to hear his explanations for some of the moves he makes.

I interviewed Ivey a few months ago and asked him if he uses notes, PT, etc, and he told me that he doesn't, pointed to his head and said, "My notes are up here." I actually believe that some people are gifted enough that they can keep a pretty good track of their opponents just from memory, especially when there are so few of them.

My reasonning is that most of the very good players are just... Very good players. All the Ivey, Antonius, Dwan etc might be gods on the table but in actuality they never teach someone to play, they barely talk strategy in public, and they share thoughts with very few people.

Galfond, on the other hand, is one of the best around, he likes all the game theory aspect as well as life and tilt management, and he loves teaching poker and playing and I'm sure he suits the best to the definition of a mentor.

Even tho there will never be consensus on who the best poker player is, i think its pretty obvious Galfond would easily be the best mentor

Re: If you could have one poker mentor who would it be?

I like Brian Townsend both as a poker player and he seems like a great guy. Ive watched several of Phil Galfonds videos and he is just the best at articulation his thought process but I like Townsend more as someone I would love to be buddies with. So I go with Brian. I would also love to have someone that plays and understands/tries to understand all the games. And that excludes many players.

Nobody mentioning Jesus? After watching him on PAD I wouldnt want anyone else. The fact that he has completely interlaced math and feel poker (something very few have done, especially to his success). My math skills are limited at best and he can sell his ideas very well.
