The guy never played a hand of online poker, only wants a deal if it's just for the final table and already said he's going to go back to his old job , so even tho he's a likeable guy, personally i think it would be bad for poker since he would be like a second version of Jerry Yang, not doing much for the game at all.

What do you guys think ?

Bad because theres already been so many main event winners that go on sick heaters. I want to see a winner with skills aka Phil Ivey.

I think he made the FT and can do what he wishes. And other then Ivey winning, I can't see any of the other affecting poker much.

I say good because every working class man in the US is going to try playing poker if they haven't already.

The 2 best outcomes for the main event is if a super famous pro like Ivey or past ME champion wins it or a working stiff like Moneymaker wins it.

Worst for poker would be if a young online grinder wins it because people don't want to play poker against a college kid that makes poker their job.

exactly. i mean, moneymaker beating farha didn't affect pokers much - so why would moon beating ivey? The TV-watching-casual-poker-players out there definitely prefer watching a pro carving up a charasmatic donk they really identify with.

that Akenhead guy (misspelt name) would be good for poker to win. he reminds me exactly of Eastgate, young pro who plays extremely well. Him and Ivey both on the short stacks, but ones to look out for imo

I think no matter who wins its not going to affect online play much, everyone knows about online poker, so we have about as many players as were gonna get.

Yes, year to year new donks come around be there freshly turned 18/21 yr kids who dont have much money anyway.

influence of moneymaker on the game is overblown - online poker was growing significantly prior to his win, hence why an individual such as himself was playing on PokerStars in the first place -; furthermore, until change in legislation occurs in the USA, the best thing for the game is a non-American winning

yeah, fair enough, moneymaker's win came along at the right time... BUT imagine a moon winning/us legalisation double whammy! it'll add years onto doyle's life for one.

Were you in the US at the time of Moneymaker's win? And familiar with it being replayed every 30 minutes on ESPN for 2 years? I was in college at the time and trust me it had a huge effect. I think the US player pool online post 2003 had a lot to do with the growth of poker, don't you?

Where's the "it doesn't matter who wins the Main Event because unless Lou Diamond Phillips wins it the mainstream media isn't gonna give a rat's ass, and even if they did there aren't magical hordes of people who are suddenly gonna show up at your local cardroom waving fistfulls of $100s because somebody won a poker tournament, because they would have already found their way to your local cardroom during the biggest poker boom in history which is still actually going on right now" option?

They are both still pretty deep, and I agree.

moon winning wouldn't be bad for poker, but the only way it'd be good for poker is if he beats ivey HU

if player like ivey wins, more money will recycle through the poker economy.

recycled $ is needed b/c the poker economy has been raked over the coals by harrah's wsop even according to the pokercast guys. Doesn't harrah's come in around 3rd place in every wsop bracelet event-with about 9% rake)? How much has rake increased from when wsop was at binion's? Do other big tournament series' rake higher/lower %. then again wsop is the nutz so comparisons may not be worth much. Interestingly off topic.

You realize you're suggesting Ivey is a losing player. Yes some of his money might be put back into play but that won't help anyone because in the long run it will still be his and more.

The best bet is someone like Jamie Gold who is bad at poker but fearless and egotistical. I'm not sure we have anyone like that at this years FT though.

how are people voting that it would be bad if he won it?

christ everyone just wants to see some humble mild mannered working stiff strike it rich. it makes everyone think "gee that could be me".

that is like the best thing possible.

It would be bad for poker due to the legal ramifications. Ivey winning proves its a skill game imo.

moon winning would be awesome, in terms of the player pool. while i dont necessarily think it will create any huge huge rush of new players, it will never hurt for the general public to see some regular guy get hit upside the head with the deck and beat the best in the game on the biggest public stage in poker. however, it wont help the "poker is skill" argument either.
