Ibrahimovic rejects a €3-4million deal with Pokerstars

It's been reported in French/Italian/Brazilian sports websites that the PSG striker rejected a Pokerstars deal worth $3/$4m euro. Reason being "he doesn't like Poker".

Below is the only english translation I could find, but a google search and google translator would also find other ones with more details:

"According to the French newspaper ‘Le Parisien’, an international soccer superstar and "Paris Saint-Germain" striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic has denied a multi-million euro advertising contract with PokerStars.

The publication notes that a tentative agreement on a contract has already been achieved and the parties had only to sign the relevant papers, but Ibrahimovic changed his mind at the last moment. According to rumors, the contract envisages an annual salary of €3-4 million. It’s noteworthy, that Zlatan is receiving €15 million per year on his contract with PSG.

Currently, Team PokerStars roster includes such famous athletes like Rafael Nadal, Ronaldo, Fatima Moreira de Melo and others."

His father is a Muslim and gambling is banned in that religion. There is debate over if he himself is a practicing Muslim or not (evidence would suggest most likely), I would think he wouldn't like to be seen to be endorsing something that the religion half of his family follow forbids regardless of his own personal beliefs.

Would be surprised if it is true that it actually got to the stage reported.

Not sure how they get to "offering a deal" if he doesn't even like poker to begin with. Wouldn't this be the 1st question asked?

If someone approached me and started talking about sponsoring me to represent a giant pile of poop for 7 figures, while I don't care for poop, I'd be listening and signing up for round 2 of deal making. He probably discussed it with his family after the initial meeting and decided to decline at that point.

A big-name footballer would definitely be an asset. Yeah, Ronaldo was major a few years ago but it's not like people are going to follow him in the same way they would follow Bale, Messi etc.

Lol, this is Zlatlan we are talking about. This guy is a straight up boss and doesn't give a f**k. Most likely reason if this is true is that he can't be bothered doing silly commercials for a few million and being the face of something he has no idea about. After all, he's a professional footballer in one of the richest teams in world football, he's earning millions as it is. I doubt he'd be discussing anything with his family either.

He has enough money so he does not need to compromise his morals and views at this point. Class player.

Dont know how gambling as a whole is perceived in Europe, but maybe he thought that associating with a gambling site may limit other possible endorsement opportunities with more mainstream products.

He's often perceived like that but I think that's actually far from the truth. His character makes a lot of sense if you read his book. Unlike most athletes Zlatan
is brutally honest and like someone previously stated, he doesn't give a **** what people think.

Well if his father is a Muslim then its like the ultimate sin in Islam to bring shame on your parents.

I would snap call said deal. Hell I would be the poster boy for new hemorrhoid cream for the next ten years for a milly

Mustapha Kanit , Rachid "SkaiWalkurrr" Ben Charif and many more online
end bosses have muslim parents, and dont think there is much of an issue .

Also pretty sure, that many of zlatan close friends/posse and jong team mates play poker, so he knows pretty good wat poker is about, most likely
he may have some contract obligations that he just doesn't feel to bother

...after all Zlatan is GOD !!!!

I doubt it has to do with religion.

More like Zlatan was happy to receive that money but when he found out he actually had to do **** for it, he declined.

Is it me or am i out the loop because i never understood the benefit of having a celebrity endorse your poker site. I mean like honestly how often would they play on the site.

Re: Ibrahimovic rejects a €3-4million deal with Pokerstars

4 million?? These kind of deals make me very upset. I will never believe it can be a profitable investment. Tens of thousands of new (micro) players should sign up just because they've seen that one celebrity advertising PS, then those new players should deposit and rake huge amounts to cover what PS spends on sponsor deals.
But it’s their money, and they are probably smarter than me.
I work for a large multi-national company, and we ran TV adverts during the FIFA World Cup for sheetload of money, now the management wondering why it wasn’t profitable…
