In his most recent Blog Daniel Negreanu says he wants to have the final table of the 50K HORSE back as NL, rather than play all the games.

He cited the lack of ratings for the mixed game format on ESPN, and says that due to that fact the event was dropped from Television coverage.

The drop from about 150 players to less than 100 this year, he says had nothing to do with the economy, but had everything to do with the event not being televised.

He vows to "fix" the event for next year and get the final table back to NL for all future years.

This is a HORSE event, not a No Limit event. We were discussing this at my table, and EVERY player agreed it was the players tournament, not the TV Viewers, and that the final table should be the same games as were played for the entire span of the event.

Annie Duke said, if they want to televise another high buyin No Limit event just add another one to the schedule.

I can't agree with her more. The fact that someone can build chips in limit games for several days and lose their entire stack in one cooler type hand seems unfair.

I really hope he doesn't get his way on this one.

This is to be expected when players turn into "celebrities" Daniel is clearly more interested in TV time that boosts his income potential rather than earning it from the game itself..

Danial will say of course that what's best for ESPN and the viewing audiance is better for poker blah, blah blah - it's just better for the ones the camera's flock too.

How about you cash a tournament first.

Changing the ft to No Limit was stupid back when they did it and would be stupid if they returned to that format now. It would devalue the whole event. Television coverage should fit in with events and the players, not vice versa.

On a totally unrelated point, it was pretty suprising that Phil Hellmuth did not play this event. I know he went deep in the plo8, but maybe he's finally realised he's outmatched by the pros in limit events.

Why should the world championship HORSE event be decided by a game that's not even in the HORSE rotation?

as i said in another thread, essentially for ESPN the 40k NLHE anniversary tournament is replaceing the 50k HORSE tournament. it seems as if that will stay in every year.

Stupid ESPN people need to put the whole event on TV, not just FT. These games are very interesting! Same for 2-7 KCL.

But then, when I sit at at holdem table live and ask "Who wants to play Omaha High Low?", I kind of like it when they say "Is that the game where you get four cards?" Its a shame they don't agree to play it afterwards though.

I think it is stupid to even think about not having the HORSE final table actually be played as HORSE.

What Daniel is missing is that there is a general saturation of poker interest. They haven't only cut the $50k television coverage, but most television coverage. Having the FT play as NL won't reverse that.

Switching games at the final table just for TV ratings is really dumb. At least Daniel is honest about his motivation.

I think being on TV is much more valuable to DN than the other players. No one is going to sign "the chainsaw" no matter what he wins or how much he is on TV. He's just a much more marketable person than the average players, but no need to get greedy and change tournaments around just he can be on TV more.
