Huck Seed Prop Bet to Run 4:39 Mile Huck Seed Prop Bet to Run 4:39 Mile

I just heard on the Gary Wise show that Huck Seed, age 40, has made a prop bet to run a 4:39 mile before the end of the year. He is getting 33 to 1. They didnt say the amount. But I am guessing something like 5 grand vs 165 grand?

Anyway, I would guess that most former NCAA All-Americans in the mile would have trouble running a 4:39 mile at age 40. I think Huck has no shot.

LOL that is impossible i would bet everything i got against huck running that, easy money right there. If he was in his 20s and been running track his whole life it would still be hard to do that. LOL at 4:39 LOL

He's not a thick person. Why would he agree if its as bad as you say Frankie? He must have some shot at it.

Actually, here's a 46 year old at 4:13...
But the ONLY way Huck is running 4:39 at 40...
Is if he was serious, competitive runner in his college days...
You need GENETICS to run 4:39 at any age.

Neil Chapelle, if I spelled his name right, is an old time Stardust Razz player and just might become, if I am not mistaken about the record, the first seventy year old to break five minutes. He hangs out at the Bellagio once in a while. If I was him I'd be winning lots of money.

I think he wins less than 3% of the time so good bet for Gary Wise.

I don't think he understands the amount of training that is required for the average person to break 5 minutes.

Roosevelt's quote: "The cold and timid souls who know neither victory nor defeat" comes to mind here

The consolation prize of being in awesome shape is probably worth the 5k alone, maybe he just needs some motivation, a goal, and now hes got supporters.

did they give the reason why 4:39 was chosen instead of like 4:40?

Pretty sure Huck's brother did this bet in the past, but at 4:30, and lost after running a 4:35 mile or something like that.

He really has no shot at this unless he was pretty much a pro athlete when younger and still runs a lot.

How much training would be required and what types of training would it take for a completely sedentary man to reach a sub 5 min mile?

totally depends on age.

at 16, 6 months min.
at 25, 1 year.
at 35, 3 years.
at 45+ 5 years.

imo (i could be off on 35/45)

very tough, but if I was Huck and getting 33:1 I'd take it

(I think it'd be -EV, but +"life"EV in terms of getting in shape

Was there any stipulation saying he couldn't be on pseudoephedrine or cocaine or some stimulant? Don't forget that!

Breaking 5 minutes would have been a huge challenge at age 40. I know hucks a good runner and very driven. Shaving seconds under 5 minutes is really hard.

It's not really a matter of time at age 40. At age 40 he'll have endurance but man you just gotta have speed.

You can't teach speed. At age 40 he's lost a step and he just won't be able to get all of it back. Strength and weight training will help but damn.

Think of it this way he will need to run 4 70 second quarter miles back to back to back.

genetics is far more important than prep time. 99%+ of the population could train forever and never get that.
