On Sunday 60 Minutes is broadcasting a story about the UB/AP ripoff. The voice-over starts with the inaccurate claim that internet poker is flatly illegal in the US.

This could reduce the number of new players coming online.

There is time to get them to change this.

Call 60 Minutes RIGHT NOW.

What I took from the statement was that the "Industry" was ilegal in the US, Although I had to listen to it twice to make sure as the first time I was upset thinking they were implying that online poker was ilegal.

I dont think that the general public will pick up on that and they will assume that online poker is ilegal.

This being on 60 mins is the way to over worried about. If anything I see this story as a way to maybe get the goverment to step in and regulate it, like most the poker community wants. Which will increase the number of players and creditable sites to play on.

"Though such gambling is illegal in both Canada and the U.S., the betting laws in those countries have no jurisdiction on the sovereign reservation."

Lols. They spent 4 months researching their story to come up with that crap?

I'm afraid that we're probably too late. The contents/preview for Sunday's show is usually posted on Thursday or Friday, and this week it was posted on Tuesday -- presumably because of the holiday in the US.

I sent my e-mail on Wednesday, but I'm almost certain that this piece is shot, and all the production staff have gone home for the holiday.

Sucks.

Just got some advance copy from CBS......

"One can imagine how passionate these outlaws are about poker, because thousands of them emailed us in a great panic under the delusion that poker is not illegal. Nonetheless, it is in fact illegal, so much so that President Bush made sure of that by recently passing the UIEGAGAGAGE so that there were no misunderstandings. Because we wish to preserve the privacy of our viewership, the names of these people were not reported to thE authorities. We are, after all, not the police but a beacon of freedom."

At this point in online poker's timeline, general blanket statements saying online poker is illegal in the US isn't going to be shocking to anyone and definitely not sway anyone from playing online poker (at this point). People are going to be focusing on the middle 58 minutes a bit more and on why it's illegal in the first place and maybe how the whole reason we had this problem is because it was a massive gray area to begin with.

This is TV news. They can change it right up to 30 seconds before airtime. They don't even have to have Steve Kroft redo the voice over, just chop that one sentence.

That might be the case, but I'm under the impression that only a 'skeleton crew' worked during the holiday weekend (I'm not American), and this is why the preview clips, etc were posted so early in the week. Not only do we have to worry about production/editting staff being available, but also is there going to be someone there to answer the phone calls and e-mails?

I sent my e-mail, but I don't think it's likely they'll change it.
