Looking at the thread title, I can see how there could have been confusion - I've added some parentheses that hopefully will help.

Yeah, I signed up for the free membership and haven't heard a word from them. You would think that would be blasting me with promotional emails. No Facebook activity either. I'm guessing opening is delayed.

The first one gathered a few players
I had a friend go to the 2nd one...2 cars parked outside

Word it was NOT rake free

I am the poster formerly known as AcesHigh. Some may remember me from my blatant homerism when it came to the Houston Astros back around 10 years ago.

It has been at least 4 or 5 years since I posted on twoplustwo and I could not access my old account, so I created this one until I'm able to regain access.

I just wanted to say that folks need to look past Clivestraddle's smear campaign against MintPoker. It is completely obvious that he doing it from a perspective of looking out for his own self interest and the game he runs and trying to squash potential competition. Leaving a negative Yelp review for a business that isn't even open yet? Really? Come on man.

I went by the club the other day hoping to play. It isn't open yet but is obvious from what I saw that they've invested quite a bit of capital and it is a serious endeavor. The place itself looks great. So they've had some false starts. This is not some hastily put together room. It's a legit club and if it takes off, Houston players are going to have something special.

I went to the home game on Saturday. Unfortunately my buddy and I had to leave before the game got started. Yes attendance was sparse while we were there, but the notice for the game went out late. I have never met Clivestraddle and I had never met Michael Eakman prior to Saturday. I came away with respect for the dude for attempting something on this scale. This club represents the first real opportunity I've seen for poker to come out of the shadows in Houston. A lot of folks like me don't like going to underground rooms. I'm rooting for its success.

I don't have a dog in this fight other than wanting a legitimate, nice, safe place to play poker like those in many other states have.

Clivestraddle, how bout letting this club succeed or fail on its own merit? When a business owner goes out of the way to trash another's product it usually reflects insecurities about their own.

I have already opened a legal game and encourage the idea - There are millions of people in Houston and plenty of room for several clubs.

That being stated - I have a problem with Mr Eakman himself - not his operation - not the concept. I have letters from people and companies that state Mr Eakman owes money.

On rip-off.com - there is a place to rebutte these claims...post them there - I have the emails from several people and have offered to fly them in to collect or negotiate their issues.

I have stated several times within this thread to Mr Eakman - come forward - address these accusations and settle them with the people.

I have been in this business for 30 years and hosted for 20 - I am retiring and building clubs to generate veterans donations that are 100% transparent (ever dollar you donate - we will give you an IRS receipt to present on your taxes) - the clubs will be built and handed over to the employees once they are profitable with myself retaining a minority share of the operations.

That being said - the problem for a legal game is that there is very little money - There already have been 8 legal games that opened and all have closed there doors because the cost of operations and the amount of money generated is so small. I am a day trader and the profits are so low that one has to do it because you love the game.

I will absolutely endorse Mint Poker once these issues have been settled. I really can't understand why one would want to sink that much money into an operation when for less than 25% of what he has already put out (he states he spent 200k already) - why couldn't you settle these claims.

The poker world can be filled with great people ...and others that are not. Clear your name Mr Eakman and I will be happy to refer people without any reservations.

Lastly - I have had over 15k different players that have played my games - hosted over 3k tournaments and collectively have 4 bracelets, 29 WSOP rings and over 14 million in tournaments amongst my top players and my dealers. To date there is no one person that I have ever owed money - never had an issue with anyone that was not paid 100% of what they were owed. Reputation is everything in this business and one mistake can ruin decades of "doing the right thing".

BTW...I DIDN'T START THIS THREAD - I did my due diligence and researched the topic - read the claims - contacted the people with the claims - had documentations sent to me - I want legal poker to succeed in houston and it won't if run by someone with a reputation of not paying people the money they are owed.

100%. If mint poker was located in Dallas or hell even the Woodlands, Clive wouldn't have 60% of the posts on this thread. This is competition in his territory Enough with the agenda, let's see how this goes on its own. Hopefully it is successful. Don't know the guy running it, but there are plenty of other companies I patron that are ran by scumbags.

Who cares about clivestraddle's agenda? Michael Eakman still hasn't paid me the ten thousand dollars he owes me from winning one of his poker tournaments. How can you possibly brush that aside?

Take away every post from Clyde about this club and it still looks sketchy. From the owner with a dubious reputation. To the website that looks like it should have a geocities banner. To the opening date changing and changing. The owner isn't oblivious to 2+2, he could've come here and explained what was going on and addressed the money he supposedly owes. He could've done that and and he would've had players in the 4th largest city in the country ready to show up. But he hasnt. Attacking Clyde doesn't ease anyone's opinion about Mint.

You spent all that time typing in your first post....then end with this section that asks us to ignore the past transgressions of the owner. smh

Oops, *Clive. Not Clyde. Regardless if the owner wanted to ease people's opinion of his place he's spending lots of money on he would've addressed this on his own.

If the guy running this club owes people large sums of money from other poker ventures, I'm unsure why anyone would take issue with a thread being started and people being warned.
If I was a player that planned to play at this club, I'd actually be pissed if people kept this information to themselves and didn't caution others.

Am I missing something here? Why are a few guys offended? There's literally a man posting in this thread who is owed 10k from a poker cash that Eakman is personally responsible for.

No one is preventing anyone from playing at this place, go right ahead.
