But, hey, no one ever thought UB players would get paid so I suppose even Michael Eakman might pay the $10k he owes me someday. I've made many attempts to reach him over the past few years to no avail, so if anyone plans on playing at his club, shoot me a PM - would be great so have a contact or two in Houston.
Whats stopping you from taking that plane you are on and visiting Mint Poker with an attorney on opening day? 10k is a chunk of change & worth the trip imho.

Why havent attornies already been involved if you dont mind me asking?

I hope you aren't thinking my account is "shill" because I posted some photo's and such. All I'm trying to do is give anyone who is interested some information on what I know and have seen. I'm not telling anyone to visit or not to visit, that's something each player would need to think of and decide for themselves. I haven't even been in the place yet myself and haven't decided yet if I'll start playing there. Even if I do, it certainly wouldn't be a for a big game or tournament.

At one point I was thinking that the person that said that he had not been paid for a tournament was false - but even if he was just stirring up trouble - there are too many others that have said the same thing.

I am sure that Michael Eakman has seen these posts and among the others posted all over Facebook and Yelp and yet he has not come forward to dispute them.

This isn't Apple vs Samsung. It's small claims. If you know a lawyer who'd be willing to work for pennies, I might be interested.

The one thing he tried to dispute was him not paying the body-painted girls at the Playboy Mansion. His argument was that they were drunk and unprofessional, which is simply hilarious. The girls were lovely, posed for pictures, etc. Spoke with the owner about a year ago and he still hadn't been paid.

This is a case of principles - I would be happy to have you come out with summons in hand to present him in front of the opening night crowd with cameras.

Ok 1 moar...

If in fact you consider $10k "pennies", then why even waste time posting about such an inconsequential amount?

Also, Im pretty sure at most you would be paying 5k for a decent local attorney to wrap up this petty squable over pocket change

...5k profit

... plane ride has already been donated back thread...

You misread. I was saying the lawyer would have to work for pennies to justify hiring one for a small claims case. Small claims are generally settled without lawyers if I'm not mistaken. Lawyers are expensive.

10k is above small claims limit in Texas besides a lawyer would sue for the 10 K plus Attorney fees. He would make far more than pennies.

It used to far less and you can't add Attorney fees onto the 10K in small claims.

Listen... if the guy behind this is a scumbag then **** this guy. All I'm saying is there seem to be legit attempts to get live poker in TX going and as a trend it's a good thing and something we should appreciate. If this particular guy is ****, fine, there will be another operator.

ABSOLUTELY AGREE

the premise is a warning against this particular person.....not the format or intention of the club and IF HE COMES FORWARD AND RESOLVES THESE ISSUES..I WILL 100% ENDORSE HIS CLUB

Thank you clivestraddle for notifying me of this podcast:

(29:28) Podcast host:

There's a lot of stuff out there on the internet about you, specifically on forums and stuff, and people keep sending me this stuff, and frankly I've been ripped on forums before too so, uh, what is all that about, and what, if you could just address that

(29:43) Michael Eakman:

Well, we've done hundreds of charity events over the last, uh, 25 years, we've been producing celebrity poker tournaments for the last dozen and there was a couple of illegal game runners from here in Houston that, uh, kinda started putting things... they've cut down our... they don't like the chips, they don't like the trees, um, but we've just, we've learned a long time ago we just don't respond to that kind of thing and we'll just, uh, ya know, we've given away free memberships, let people come out, and they can make the decision for themselves, whether they like the structure, um, ya know if I was running an illegal game I'd be kind of scared too, so, we just encourage everybody that plays poker to come on out and give it a try and if they enjoy the room it's going to be a first class space on the water in Clear Lake and, uh, I think it's something that everybody's going to enjoy
Absolutely unintelligible. Listen to it yourself.

Later in the podcast, he says they decided to cap the seat fee for tournaments at $20. I'm going to sign up for the free 1 month membership and check it out.

I do worry about giving my credit card info though...

There is no daily fee on top of the membership fee of $10 daily, $49 monthly or $490 annually. $20 seat fee for tourneys, $5/half hour for cash games
