now will you fools actually get a 6month emergency fund saved up so that next time a bill with a blackout comes you wont oppose it?

Ok, thats what i was thinking. I just dont see how somebody who plays online for a living would want to not be able to play for 15 months. Thats pretty substantial.
Im willing to gamble and play now and hope that it never gets banned. I mean who knows? You might hit the Sunday million next week.

Either way, I couldnt afford to not be able to play for 15 months.

And yes, we could all die tomorrow.

Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo, this is terrible news, I dont think people understand what the legalization of online poker would do for our community. I honestly think player traffic would have at least doubled if not more.

this is so ridiculously false. Im tired of hearing it. The boom is over. I know several casual players that played 2-3 years ago...lost their money and just quit and dont play anymore. They are tired of poker, it was a fad. Just because something was "illegal" doesnt mean people would just stop if they wanted to. They simply quit because they were losing and arent degenerates.

The people rejoicing are sharing the company of legislators in California who, this very moment, are working on legislation to criminally penalize players who play on non-licensed sites and force them to play on a single-network state monopoly with zero competition. Now there will be no pesky federal interference to stop that plan.

OTOH, I still know lots of casual players that play in live underground games with a stupid amount of rake because they think online poker is illegal, rigged, or they can't get money on.

I agree many people did quit becasue they lost their money, but you fail to include the people who wont play because it is "illegal" I cant even begin to count how many people tell me online poker is illegal and arent I "scared to get caught". Legalizing it and having a name like harrahs or caesars associated with it could do wonders for online poker. Imagine the B&M players that would join, they say 5NL online is like 1/2 live.... Imagine the possibilities.... Obviously my number of 2x as many players is just an assumption but IMHO it would be somewhere along that number.

Exactly. I could've survived even a year w/out having to move, but 15 months plz.

Pretty happy I don't have to possibly move to my parents house to grind live 1/2nl.

Ok
I'll bite
you say this is terrible, what did you think of the following stuff the bill included:

1) 15 month blackout and what it implicates, possibly a play of the casinos to see if it's needed to launch online poker sites, if they make tons more during the blackout period they could lobby all the states to opt out. We had A POSSIBILITY for each state to legalise it after 15 months of NOTHING, not and far from a guarantee. More of a guarantee of a ton of states that won't opt in.

2) 2 years after the 15 months where only land based casinos are allowed to operate. Guaranteed to have terrible software, terrible software and high rake.

3) The insanely huge tax of 20% on REVENUE. Do you think it is possible to not increase rake with that tax?

4) Empowering Harrahs Reid to get this through

I'm sure there are more, but this bill sucked plain and simple, I know you fear online poker is dying and it could, that does not mean you should accept anything that they throw at you.

They might not come back, but there's a fool born every minute, and if a fool thinks internet poker is illegal he will never try it. If he is bombarded by commercials of PS, FTP, Harrah's, whoever, he will deposit.

That's how it works.
