every time i quit poker and later came crawling back for more abuse, this is where i began. you never laughed at me or let the trolls beat up on me too much. just enough to get my game a little more straightened out. you also connected me to some really weird, interesting and sometimes insanely idiotic people. with that being said, this was part of my path to enlightenment. thanks.

I believe the current shown count goes back further than the current software. But there's also an archive of five million posts which are not part of that count. So a a more accurate count is probably about 56 million.

Finding this website was one of the greatest turning points in my life.

Anytime I start to tell the story of how I get into poker it always starts off with me walking up to the Borders Book Store and reading 2p2 books. I kept noticing the website located next to the 2+2=4 logo.

I went on the website and found the microstakes forum. It started with hand histories posted asking for strategy advice explaining their opponents to be 25/10/2 or 60/25/5. I had no idea what any of this meant but it started the biggest and most life altering obsession of my life.

I've found the majority of my friends and many of my best friends as a result of the community here.

Thanks to Mason, David, Mat, and the whole team for creating and maintaining this place. I'm sure I speak for many others when I say my life took a turn for the best because of their contributions.

Mason: it's been an incredibly slow process lol but you've come a long way in opening up over the years and it hasn't gone unnoticed! I especially appreciate when I see tweets from you to this day, where you are continuing to post (I.E.; show support) to the Daily Action Plan. You strike me as an incredibly loyal guy, once you decide to support someone or something. I also think you've been more aware that posters/contributors/this forum community are an equal amount of the reason, shared with yourself and the admin, that your forum has had unparalleled success.

Anyone else here participate at that old forum? It was friggin insane! I'd love to find an archive of all those posts and go down memory lane. IIRC, D Negreanu, Annie Duke and some other folks people would recognize used to post there.

The best part was that when RGP was "the forum" and 2+2 started to take over, the unending howls of "that moderated and censored site will never take the place of our beloved RGP!".

lol, looks like you and I are some of the few folks who were around back in the day. Oy, those were the days and the streets were littered with gold, even my sorry ass was printing money on ye old Planet Poker when everyone was afraid to play online because it was "rigged".

I remember emailing Paradise Poker and Planet Poker begging them to start running online tournaments and the responses I received were that "tournament poker will never work online"

There are over 3800 posts just in the 'ziig blow ups and chat' thread.......in the beginning I imagine viewing that would be akin to a visit from Martians.

As much as I love poker the thing that keeps bringing me back here is the community. The more a website reflects the real world and not just a controlled segment pushing a narrative, the more informative and entertaining it is.

I was reading rec.gambling.poker when this place was first established. I kind of ignored 2+2 for a long time, because it seemed like an attempt to moderate the conversation, and at that time, I was just enjoying the conversation as it was unmoderated -- what with Russ G. accusing everyone and his wife of cheating, and Kid Poker (still a kid at the time) getting drunk and tearing a strip off everyone and his wife.

At some point though, Usenet just became unusable and I came over here, genuinely grateful for the moderation. When I initially arrived, the place seemed to be dominated by those Eastern Europeans -- one of them had a daughter who was flirting with Sklansky, another had been banned because he was arguing with Sklansky over theory. There was some discussion about them starting a bot ring in some god-forsaken place -- but the names and the name of the place all escape me for the moment -- Alzheimers setting in, obviously.

But I really got addicted to the place duting the Brandi Hawbaker/Colonel Tom/Newhizzle debacle. After that kicked off I couldn't drag myself away.

I remember reading it and occasionally posting in the pre-reg days and it would be quite exciting if there were 2 or 3 replies to my post by the next day.

popular threads would get like 10 posts.

I think I read every post on the site from 99-01.
