Gus Hansen Has lost $16m+ on FTP - Page 8 - Poker News

stumpled across this vid the other day and thought i would drop it here. no groundbreaking news but quite entertaining video of gus at the ept grand final this year where he talks about his large wins at backgammon over the last 20 years and other stuff (mainly in german though). to translate the bankroll part@3:15:

q: is it true that the biggest part of your bankroll comes from backgammon games?
g: eeehm, no...perhaps. i have won large amounts at backgammon over the past 20 years. i've also lost very much online but won a lot at tournaments and won a lot at cash games so i don't know exactly but i have an "ok" bankroll from backgammon.

Have you forgotten that Gus was a member of team FT for years before black Friday? Or that he had his own TV commercial? Or that at least some members of team FT made millions? Or that Gus is currently a sponsored pro?

A safe presumption would be that these activities have made Gus tens of millions of dollars, and seeing as how he resides in Monaco probably a lot more than he's lost online.

He should try a Chris Ferguson challenge. See if he can build up 1 dollar into 10000 dollars.
1) He gets to put his losses on hold for a bit.
2) He is still playing on his sponsor's site and at levels where people would love to play with a TV pro, so they are still getting value for money.

Anyone ever think that Howard and Chris are putting their friends in games? These two have tens of millions tucked away and are not really able to play poker anymore.

They have played poker their whole adult lives and there is no way they don't miss the action. I wouldn't be surprised at all if they were putting people in games.

Gus, Juanda, Lindgren, maybe even Ivey, etc. are all friends with them and have proved they are no where near the top players in the world anymore, except Ivey of course but with his gambling habits who really knows what his money situation is like at all times.

I love all the hatred in this thread. It´s kind of silly when you think about how little Gus actually lost in terms of bb/100 to incurr those insane losses. He´s been playing the toughest games short-handed and heads-up, and he´s been losing at something like 2bb/100 if you take $600 as the average big blind in the games he´s played in. Doesn´t exactly sound like a super whale, does it?

With five players playing $300-$600 PLO, samrostan opened to $1,500. Action was next on Hansen in the small blind and he made it $5,100. Luneau three-bet to $16,800 from the big blind, and samrostan folded. Hansen four-bet to $51,900. Luneau five bet to $157,000, and Hansen called, leaving himself with around $10,000. Luneau had him covered by about $5,000.

The rest of the money was going to go in on the flop no matter what.

Both players saw the 8c 5s 3c hit the virtual felt. The money went in, and the players elected to run it twice—meaning that there would be two separate turn and rivers.

Hansen: Ks 10s 9d 7d
Luneau: Ac Ad 9s 6c

Hansen was in bad shape against his opponent’s aces and flush draw.

The first run-out was the 10h and the Qc, which was no help for Hansen. The second board completed 9h and 5h, giving Luneau the entire pot and felting Hansen.

U could do some math and see how nosebleed players have won or lost per 100 hands. I once guessed with not much info nor math that maybe the bedt win some 3.33 bigblinds and maybe gus loses that much, and if high limits give double that, he could break even there and the bestnb players make in theory 10 bb. Then there are the biggest fluctu of some 1m at 200 500, meaning 20 big stacks, and the best lifetime scores are 10 to 20 m maybe, thats like lifetime of 5 years maybe at 100d fluctu game w 1 to 2k wins, with 10 bbor whatever rake.

Have you read "Every Hand Revealed"?

His thought process is great for tournaments where you have to get every chip in play over a couple hundred hands to win the trophy.

That's not cash...

Don't get me wrong... fanboy for Gus... but he's clearly outmatched in the games he's playing.

He should stick to tournaments or get some serious coaching.
