To paraphrase George Mallory, "because they are there." I think Gus gets his kicks by playing the Rafeal Nadals and Roger Federers of Poker. Could he beat lesser pros? Sure, but it doesn't do anything for him. At this point I doubt anyone is actually giving Gus any significant backing at these games so I assume this is mainly his own money he is losing. Anyone who has made enough from gambling to afford a 16 million downswing is a pro in my book... a pro who may need to revisit some basic tenants of bankroll management, but a pro nonetheless.

He probably didn't make that much from gambling, but from other things like sponsor money, selling site, etc. As far as I know names like Bitar, Ivey, Lederer, Ferguson all made $20+ million from ftp, and Gus was also close to the top. I don't really care how much he loses, but I'm sure he has relatives, and friends who have 9-5 jobs, and it must be a pain for them to watch Gus donating millions to other millionaires.

Yeah, definitely. He is just wasting 5k-10k an hour because he wants to play. It is just so evident that he is a big loser in this game, since the sample size has been pretty big over the past year. Even if he becomes a favourite within lets say the next month, there is just no way he will ever win this amount of money back in the games where he has lost so much. He seems like a smart and definitely nice guy, but this is just ******ed imo.
