Gossip: Dwan staked by Galfond?

Was Dwan staked by jman in some of the isildur matches?

From Galfond's Nov 16 blog:

"Poker isn't going very well right now. Well actually, that's not true. It's strange. What I should say is that my financial situation isn't great right now. I've been very happy with the way I've been playing, and my results have been pretty good, but due to some investments, staking, taxes, and mostly expenses on my new place, I've found my self a little short on cash."

Can't think of anyone he would stake for nosebleeds except Dwan (Dangs have money and he's not really tight with anyone else who's been playing in the games afaik). I'm assuming this is staking for the nosebleeds he's talking about in order for it to have had an effect on him financially.

How much does it cost for 'expenses on a new place'?

Re: Gossip: Dwan staked by Galfond?

I'm a bluefirepoker.com member and occasionally glance at his blog though I know it to be kinda a waste of time .... but then I saw what you are talking about and I did not assume nosebleed staking. And even if so I would not guess it was Dwan he was staking.

And again Dwan's been playing 5000NL+ for like 5 or 6 years. If you think he's just gonna disappear now well I think that's ridiculous to think.

13k post and that stupid wow. 500-1k games have been around max 2 years. Dwan has been in high stakes for 3 years at most to my knowledge

Phil just doesn't seem like the type of person who would risk losing a large % of his BR backing someone @ 5/1k in a high variance game IMHO

It wouldn't surprise me at all if some of these guys has pieces of each other's action to reduce variance and their exposure.

But the idea of Galfond outright staking Dwan seems rather silly, given that until very recently, Dwan has done incredibly well in his poker career.

Well I doubt that he's outright staking Dwan too despite my OP, but I think it's very conceivable he partially staked him along with others or had a piece of his action. I don't pretend to know Dwan's finances, but with all the recent losses and all his inevitable expenses over the years it's not unreasonable to think he doesn't have many liquid assets at the moment and may be interested in getting staked. Although, reading it again, I see that maybe I jumped the gun when I assumed nosebleed staking from his blog post.

jman, if you read this, could you maybe shed some light on what the staking you mentioned in your blog entryentailed. I don't expect a confirmation that you staked/had some of Dwan's action, but maybe you could refute my bit of speculation in the op if I was way off base.

Actually Tom and Phil are very good friends and hung out @PCA together and it wouldn't surprise me if Phil would have been backing Tom in some of the Isildur's matches, depending of course on what Phil thought of Isildur's game.
