If you want to take as gospel, anything that goes through six degrees of the old schoolroom game of "telephone", go ahead.
A 4th or 5th hand "source" isn't even a source, it's just someone passing something they heard (or read), from someone else who only got that information from something they heard (or read), and so forth.
There's a reason hearsay ain't admitted in court, and while this certainly ain't court, the very reason hearsay isn't admissible applies here. It is not possible to test the veracity of the hearsay -- gotta go to the direct first party source.
