wonder if he`s afraid of burnout or something, that change to "recreational" status might be some kind of defensive maneuver to block that from happening

Maybe the "Rec" thing means he's no longer being staked by the germans? I imagine it is a lot of pressure to do that. Fedor is only player I've ever seen other than Dan Colman who completely baffles the best players in world.

Fedor is like the opposite of a degen. Needs to take a break from winning, but still wins. Up 1.2 (US) in 2017 alone lol.

Fedor gets GOAT points for that hand against Mckeehan and Rast too, if you can out play/avoid Mckeehan's luckbox tendencies you really are a special player.

The general feeling is that people in the super highroller community are pragmatic enough that nationality means very little compared to business interests. The latter thing is always a potential issue when you have players who put others into the same tournaments, are staked by the same people or swap large percentages. But that's the way the community has operated for years and even most recreational players are fine with that.

If you want to hear a rec opinion on that, ask raidalot if he wants to chime in.
