Besides the obvious, another thing that is unsettling is how this guy owes all this money to so many people and allows ESPN to pimp him as being some kind of gambling success story.

Most people who are in touch with reality would not feel right about shooting segments with Norman Chad promoting what a great all-around gambler they are when, behind the scenes, the only reason they have a pot to piss in is because of investment income through FTP. Not because he is actually a winning gambler.

This, combined with the anecdotes of him treating his creditors with disdain (acting indignant, defiant, and offended when confronted about his debts) paint a very ugly picture of him as a human being.

I don't think Erick has much of a stable of horses at all now, if any. A good friend of his he's been backing for a long time mentioned that Erick doesn't back him anymore due to cash flow problems. Also I have a good friend that used to be back by Erick but was cut off a few months ago (and not for lack of production).

In most cases the words "great poker player" should be replaced with very good players who overplay their bankroll partially because they don't understand the math and partially because they overestimate their edge against good players due to the occasional rich live one that skews their results when he is in the game. There is also the fact that they tend to play high volatility strategies which means that those with short term success don't realize they will regress to the mean, especially without the live one in there.

I am speaking in general. I have no idea whether this applies to Mr. Lindgren. I just don't like the implication that a lot of these high stakes players have these great qualities that occasionally come back to bite them. The qualities that lead them to go broke are for the most part just plain bad.

To be fair, before the poker boom and player tracking across huge sample sizes, it was far from obvious just how much money even an excellent player needed to be properly rolled for certain games (specifically, NL holdem).

That said, most lol live pros are just sick degens.

If there were an honest escrow, I would gladly book unlimited action that EL owes more money to individuals than he does to the IRS. He will never even come remotely close to paying all of his debt (not like he cares or would have anyway).

By the way, why does EL get more of a pass than Chino when EL owes more money, brought in more income, and was a far bigger name in poker?? I actually see people in this thread trying to cover for him or downplay the fact that he stole from and lied to countless people, while some of these same people were the first to state the obvious about Chino.

You do realize the typical online 10-20NL lineup was like 5pros and one really solid recreational player. Not a whole lot to carve up there. Live poker is and always has been somewhat different...

After all that was posted in this thread, my guess is that like it or not, Daniel will most likely have to throw Lindgren under the bus.
And tbh, he should, Erick had years and countless opportunities to get his act together.
When is Daniel's next vblog due?

When you owe the IRS 3.5 million....game over unless you are uber-rich. He will likely end up in federal prison. I'm gonna guess for about 10 years.

If the IRS says 3.5m i would suspect they would settle for a number WAY less than that, No?

pretty sure the IRS doesn't throw people in jail for not being able to pay. they throw people in jail for cheating, otherwise they try to put you on a plan.

I had a very good friend of mine have the IRS show up at his house and tell him he owed them a couple of hundred thousand. He didn't, he was a moron and did his own taxes without knowing what he was doing. He went and got an attorney and a CPA. He had records for every year but one. They showed the IRS where he had made a mistake in his reporting of capital gains for all the years he had records for and the IRS agreed it was a giant oops. The IRS then froze his bank accounts because of the missing year and basically said "Let's call it even, we keep what we seized and you can go on with your life". He rightly told them to go to hell and two years later is still fighting it. The IRS has some very scary powers to enforce tax compliance. They are not nice people to deal with. They won't send Erick to jail, but they can seize everything with his name on it, without going to court.
