Re: EGR article - Zynga poker opens real money poker tender...

Well, they don't have to make 2c stakes, they could make lowest stakes something like NL25 or NL50, just like Party had back in a day (if I recall correctly).

Also I don't think argument "people who play playmoney will stick to that and most likely won't bother with real money play" works in this case same as if Zynga was some random play money site trying to get into real money market. Because FB thing is huge.

Say they make it possible that when someone who plays can insta send message to all his FB friends that he's at final table in some donkament and they could all with one click start spectating him. Imagine how many people would get hooked seeing that u can enter $5 donkament and win couple grand for first place? This is how I got hooked, when bud of mine told that he entered $1 tourney and won $250 for first place. I was always sceptical about poker in general, because I thought it was just another casino game based on luck and there wasn't any skill.

Also think about similar feature - player who starts his session could view what all his FB friends who are on poker buddies list are currently doing (which would auto add people who enter play or real money games, maybe they already have this?) and with 1 click could join their games or invite them to his games etc.

I don't know what features Zynga poker has right now (never played it), but if they would make all that "achievement" crap that is super popular in today's video games, that would keep people hooked for long time. Because even tho u don't think some video games is super interesting or cool, u just keep playing to unlock all those achievements or hidden characters.

Imagine achievement badges likes - "biggest bluffer" which you could unlock by pulling 5 succesfull bluffs in 1 sessions or "final tabler" which you could get by final tabling MTT etc.

I hope this will be huge.

I think this is a bad idea, because it will lose some people who otherwise would have just tried 2nl or something and then(after winning/losing) decide to play higher.

That would be awesome, same for the message, "I`m at a final table"- messages/ statusupdates, since most of the new players probably are logged into facebook while playing.

Re: EGR article - Zynga poker opens real money poker tender...

So Zynga allows 1 table at a time now. Most sites allow 12+. If I was Zynga I would try very very hard to protect 'my players' from playing against multitable players. At least when opening up.

Not sure how they could do this if they join a network. Might be a consideration.

The single most important thing for companies like Zynga is to be able to show daily and monthly users. It would be really bad for them if a huge number tried real money. Found out they sucked, quit, and didn't return to play money since their illusions of being good had burst.

Also, it says they have 'leader boards' where your friends can see how you are doing. Is this only visible from inside the Zynga poker client or does it show on your facebook page?

For many playing on Zynga would probably be dependent on not having to show on a facebook page that they play (real money) at all.

Do you even play on Zynga under your Facebook name? Obviously I've never used either so just speculating.

they are working on a stand alone platform (for zynga games, not poker only) platform for a while right know.

what i understand, they not only plan to offer poker. their slot machines are also very popular (in april there were rumors, that zynga and wynn want to cooperate).

anyway: even when ppl spent a lot of money for playmoney (or other social games), it doesn't mean that they will open an real money account.

there are ppl out there, how pay more than $50 for a single golf club (virtual) in a comic look-a-like golf game, but won't pay the same amount for a 'real' poker simulation (where al clubs etc are included).

still zynga would bring some new fish, but a second 'gold rush' (moneymaker like) is doubtful

@ Zynga & real money in the US

if they find a partner (e.g. wynn, playtech ...) who can apply (or already applied) for a license in nevada, they can start offering real money games (well when the ngc hands out the licence ...)

if zynga buy ongame i think it will be a big step in the right direction, but we have been hearing things like this for a while and nothing has come of it as yet. If it happens it would be a step in the right direction, and maybe a hint that the US will open up soon.

Facebook addicts will turn into poker (hopefully gambling) addicts. Constantly being reminded and tempted to load up at table when they log in. Don't underestimate the impact that this could have. And even if only 10% deposit and don't play higher than 25NL, an influx of money into this dried up poker economy can never be a bad thing.

Re: EGR article - Zynga poker opens real money poker tender...

There's no need for addicts. I think that's exactly what we ought to be looking to move away from. The only reason the current poker economy relies so heavily on addicts is because the sites have created games with such high rake that it's all but impossible for comparably skilled players to compete against each other. You need idiots dropping -50bb/100 just to keep the system running.

If Zynga does something like flat rate fees or even something more innovative like advertising/social payments (as done on Zynga poker currently) there'd be no need for addicts at all to keep a healthy economy. A few million players depositing $5 or $10 bucks a few times a month is a whole hell of a lot of money flowing in the economy when it doesn't instantly get raked out by the site.

But that's a big leap. What remains to be seen is what Zynga plans to do. If they're just going to be another 5% to $3 every single hand with some ridiculous top heavy VIP system then all of this is obviously pointless and they, like the other sites, will rapidly find themselves in dire need of degenerates and gambling addicts just to keep the cogs turning.
