Dutch Boyd trying to raise money for tell all book via kickstarter

Dutch is promising to blow our mind with a tell all Poker book if he can raise $5k from Kickstarter.

how on earth does this happen? Its hard for me to believe that someone who is relatively smart like that guy could end up busto. I mean its one thing if he tilted a bunch away but could he really be -EV playing 6 NL100 tables these days?

So somehow you're the guy to break the news on this amazing story? Or are you just someone getting some advertising time for Dutch? And why am I even asking this question in the first place?

Re: Dutch Boyd trying to raise money for tell all book via kickstarter

You don't need $5k to write a book. If he has a compelling story, he can get it picked up by one of many publishers, or even self-publish it.

I pray no one donates a penny.

jmammon 03-16-2013 03:20 AM

His book would be interesting as I'm sure he has many stories to tell, but like Moki said, I won't be paying him to write it....

Quadstriker 03-16-2013 03:22 AM

Lol a kickstarter to write a book.

Re: Dutch Boyd trying to raise money for tell all book via kickstarter

A book is the last thing you need a kick starter for. Self publishing is ridiculously easy and Boyd has 5,000 twitter followers and is 'poker famous'. If the book is genuinely interesting it will sell.

It's not uncommon for authors to do kick starters as a form of self published advance, but it's not needed. Boyd clearly needs 5k fast.

Kickstarter really needs some standards. I'm surprised he didn't ask for more.

Chapter One is online as a preview LOL (wouldn't be surprised if it gets taken down, it's LOLbad)

get ready to have your mind blown " After years of playing poker I can now tell you with close to 100% certainty that psychic abilities do not exist at the poker table."

just awful stuff, and the whole smarmy if i ever go broke I can write a book wink wink

This

No one needs a kickstarter to write a book. Filthy scammer. If the book is good write it and find a publisher, otherwise it doesn't need to be written.

Annoyingly I quite enjoyed the introduction and first chapter but I wouldn't give him a dollar of your money never mind mine.

If you are one of the many readers who bought, borrowed, or stole this book looking for the nitty-gritty poker tips....
why are you asking a penniless lieing thieving bum for tips?....still nice to have the options for not paying you explained so clearly.

Shouldn't need money to write a book, but I'm willing to pay for an entire chapter of what it was like to be absolutely soul crushed my Chris Moneymaker in the main event.

I started a thread about this yesterday, but it was deleted. I'm not sure if it's because of the legal/personal history between Dutch and the ownership, or the fact that this is a book publishing website that doesn't want to give free advertising to competitors.

Either way, it seems that we're not supposed to be talking about this.

Not to put Dutch on the spot, but if he gets his book published and it's a hit, is he going to use the money to pay players back. Finally.

I highly doubt it's the former. Mason constantly reviews books favorably in the books forum that he has no interest in (seems being a known reviewer is something he values) and I've even seen threads where there is some contention between Mason and the author, yet the threads still remain as a discussion point of the book.

As for the kickstarter, anyone else have the first thought of "so he wants to raise 5k so he can get sued for more?" What are the odds he publishes something completely made up about someone and gets sued? Double digits, right?

Its not so easy going from making hundreds of thousands of dollars (even millions) to making only thousands.
