I wish we could have kept the original VOD up (it got 140k views in less than 12 hours), but because of music it has 83 copyright claims and is blocked in 243 countries. So we just set it to private.

A version without music does exist, so there will be highlights soon.

As promised:

Before someone points it out, I know there are fewer than 243 countries in the world. YouTube seems to count non-sovereign territories.

Busted in round 2 of the 25k against Sulsky. Doug made a big move with 95hh 4bet pre, tried to rep a monster and ended up getting called by a flush on an AAKxx board.

Surprised nothing mentioned on Doug moving his stream primarily to YouTube going forward. I enjoy Dougs streams and find him genuinely funny and likeable while streaming.

However, Dougs main reason for leaving Twitch is because he doesn't think he can compete with the biggest streamers there(JCarver), who already have a huge follower base established. While he may be correct, and probably is, Doug really doesn't stream that often. So to think you can just show up on the scene, stream 3 or 4 times a month and overtake the guys that are doing basically daily streams, optimistic. I understand Doug is busy with other things, I get that daily streaming isn't going to happen with him.

Anyways, I do wish him the best, and hope it works out for him. Although from a streaming standpoint, I think he needs to dedicate more time to it, if he wants to have the biggest platform.

Anytime I've seen decent sized twitch streams go to youtube they've almost always come back after viewers dwindle down on youtube from people not knowing when they stream / no influx of new viewers coming from just youtube. Like other guy said though not like doug streams very often so people who are going to watch him will watch him anyways when they see him tweeting about his youtube stream so guess it won't make much difference (just less side income from subs etc on twitch I would presume)

It's not just that. The problem with Twitch is that it lacks discovery features and just ranks everyone based on how many viewers they have. This creates a feedback loop where the #1 guy gets all the new viewers.

YouTube used to do the same thing years ago, and it created a system where a small handful of channels got enormous and everyone else struggled to grow.

I don't think anybody would argue that Jason doesn't deserve his position as king of the hill. But as long as his position is so dominant, the system is built in such a way that he crushes everyone beneath him. Even successful streamers like Tonka and Staples suffer from this.

And if you're an up-and-coming streamer, you're just screwed. The deck is stacked against you and you're wasting your time imo. There's no organic way to reach new people.

YouTube doesn't have this problem. Competition is healthy in that environment and is beneficial for everyone.

I'll agree with everything youve stated, as admittedly Im not that familiar with how Twitch operates. I watched Dougs YouTube video on why he was making the move, and think he explained himself very well. (He also had nothing but good things to say about JCarver)

I guess my main point is that regardless of where he streams from, or the competition he has, hes going to need to stream more to have the largest platform. Which Doug himself has stated that he cant really do because of all the other things he has going on.

But again, I wish him the best and do enjoy his streams when I get a chance to catch them.

He said the only way to beat carver is develop a huge following on another platform and move them over to twitch at some point. That's his new plan.

The thing about Youtube is that no one actively goes to Youtube to watch streams. With Twitch there's always new people coming in. With Youtube it's just your established fanbase. Even though they're trying to push Youtube streaming, I don't really think it's going to be a thing.

This exactly^^

Nobody goes to youtube thinking hmmm whos live stream am I going to watch?, they would just find videos searching around.

On twitch if someone thinks hmm i want to watch poker, they click poker and see maybe 5-10 people with over 1k viewers and can decide what they want to watch, where some/ a decent amount will pick doug based on knowing his name and background in poker / see he is playing higher stakes etc, or they will pick jason based on seeing a fun title etc. I think any problems doug has with not being top viewers is based on him not streaming often,as well as months of streaming low stakes on a site almost nobody plays on (wsop) maybe 1-2 times a week. If he was to daily stream mid stakes+ cash and the odd higher tournament I would be super surprised if he wasn't a staple top 3 streamer in poker section. Can't have everything ( top stream while streaming 1/3 of a month or less and focusing on other stuff / youtube channel)

Youtube it's pretty much just social media followers and the odd youtube subs who happen to see you are livestreaming and decide to pop in, not randoms looking for something to watch

Also lots of copyright issues if you want to make your stream enjoyable / with recognizable and fun music in background on youtube or have the copyright free dubstep mix everyday or no music which both are often turn-offs for people watching streams (poker specifically since a lot of people use it as background noise while playing poker on their own as well)
