"Flipping a coin" is exactly the point of balancing your ranges... you want opponents to be clueless as to what you're doing and have them guessing. Balancing your ranges does that.
But how can a villain ever make a mistake if heads is as good as tails?

If we are bettering 500 into 1000 on river and have 1 bluff for every three value hands, how could villain possibly choose wrong, assuming he beats all our bluffs and loses to all value hands? In that case he can just flip a coin because every decision is as good as the other. Or am I missing something?

We want to put the villain into spots where he cannot make profitable determinations.

I was happy to walk away with a nice bit of profit, and realizing the life of grinding tournaments all day wasn't for me.

I started to miss playing recently after watching some twitch streams etc, and decided to set a new limit of $50 so i could play in the evenings again. Well, i donked off $48 of that deposit on HU PLO sngs, 6max sngs and 10ploz leaving me with 2 bucks and a few starscoins.

I have always wanted to do one of these challenges and decided i could give it a go, adamant that i wont make another deposit. My goal is to build up a big enough bank roll to play 45 and 180 sngs in the evenings and a regular tournaments

I've playing mainly 0.25 Spins to spin it up and some micro tournaments, with an open mind what to play when/if i build it up.

I dont have the omaha version of PT4 and its obviously not showing what i lost on the cash games...

Not the most exciting challenge im well aware.. but ill check back in with results and updates after every session.

Wish me luck!

Hopefully Dougs videos and my C advise will help!

Joey is a good PLO player. I don't know his exact results so how good I have no idea.

Joey and I are also still friends, people are really reaching for some drama here between us lol.

Unlikely, but you have great choices like Joey and Jnandez if you want PLO content.

When Doug talks about betting (let's say on the river) he talks about needing to have a certain amount of bluffs and a certain amount of value hands. In essence, if you have too many / only value hands, the villain can always fold profitably and vice versa. In essence, it sounds like the idea of balancing your range.

But, how does a villain make a mistake if you're balanced? In other words, if you balance perfectly, couldn't a villain just flip a coin and make a decision based on the result?

Asked another way, doesn't being unexploitable mean that you can't exploit someone else?

Appreciate anyone who takes the time to help me understand better. Thanks
Check todays video on youtube when it goes up later, I explain your question for you .

He probably means his most recent video. Tbh I am quite mad at Doug that he has made this knowledge so explicit. The content was already out there in his regular hand videos so why spoon-feeding? I benefited myself a lot just by watching those even though I no longer play NL Holdem. I didn’t really put in the effort and haven’t achieved anything meaningful in poker to this day but learning how Doug thinks have actually helped me a lot and I feel I might eventually get somewhere given I put in the time and they don’t kill the poker dream completely.

I know I will contradict myself a bit here but I have always understood what GTO means, all that first part where he talk about river plays but still felt like I had to make some “crazy plays” you see here and there to reach the next level. This is where Doug comes into the picture. I’ve seen some of his streams (I didn’t even like him at first, you can read my older post here), watched his youtube videos and noticed that this, self proclaimed, HU NL king doesn’t actually do any of this crazy **** which made me question things. I have 33,4 ev 100/bb wr atm playing micro plo (2-10, about even distribution of hands) and I am probably winner higher but I still have another mental leak which stops me from moving up quickly but hopefully that will also change. It’s not a big brag given the stakes, I used to play higher in NL Holdem but I got burnt out. I know some of you might be skeptical, how does watching NL can improve your PLO game but I assure you, at least at this level, it’s how you think about the game that matters.

Sorry for this long rant, I just want to thank you Doug for all the stuff you do. I truly love you for the little nerd you are, how you handle yourself and how you are truly a voice of reason in those tough times for poker. You are the poker ambassador we need but don’t deserve. I hope when you have doubts about this new stream and youtube gig you will come back to posts like mine and see it is worth your time. Btw I am also still waiting for the Upswing Poker PLO content so I can finally give you my money.

Some of my hands:

^Watching Doug play 25/50 or high stakes tournaments on stream is pretty cool and he does do some very crazy things so not sure about that exact comment. I'm like "awh ****, bad river, time to fold" and Doug is like "okay guys I think we have to go with it here"

I haven’t seen his stream for quite some time due to the time zone issue but he didn’t stream HS cash back then. I mean sure there might be some WTF moments, some might even be for the added entertainment value if he feels the decision is close but I never felt he ever used any of this ******ed “feel” logic if you know what I mean or “we haven’t 3 betted from blinds for quite some time and this guy is opening any2 so I am going to 3 bet this 72o now” rhetoric.

I don’t really claim to understand that I always know what is going on in the hand, it’s just that I believe there is always some rational thinking behind it (and even Doug himself can be wrong) rather than him clicking buttons cause he felt it was a good spot.
