I asked him why he didn't just buy a Tercel and carry his tools around in that instead, as he drove a $500 car...

Re: Doug Lee, biggest toolbox ever?

From today's Bellagio $25k championship tourney updates:

Doug Lee Triples Up ... With a Warning

Level 5: 300-600, 75 ante

Doug Lee is all in against Zach Hyman and Jimmy "Gobboboy" Fricke, with about 23,000 already in the pot (no side pot) and the board showing 9spade7spade4heart10diamond on the turn. (Not sure when all the money went in the pot.)

The river card is the Qspade, and Doug Lee claps his hands and celebrates the third spade on the river. A few players complain and ask for a floorperson, who gives Doug Lee a warning for revealing information about his hand with action pending between two other players. If he does it again, he'll receive a penalty.

Hyman and Fricke both quickly check with a lack of enthusiasm, and Fricke sternly says, "I have a ten" and shows the 10club for a pair of tens. Doug Lee excitedly flips over Aspade4spade for the nuts -- the ace-high spade flush. Fricke sarcastically says, "Really?"

As Doug Lee is stacking up his chips, Hyman jokingly says, "I had a feeling you had it."

----------------------------
Shortly thereafter:

Doug Lee Eliminated

Level 5: 300-600, 75 ante

It seems that 23,000 wasn't enough chips for Doug Lee after his triple up, and he was just eliminated from the tournament. His premature celebration takes on new meaning now.

Gobbo u have any comments on the situation? Was it especially toolboxy?

Re: Doug Lee, biggest toolbox ever?

So Doug and two other guys get in a big pot where Doug bets the turn on a Q74T two diamond board, gets raised and the preflop reraiser coldcalls. Doug calls and river is the jack of diamonds. Doug bets out like 1/3 pot and the raiser from the last street now shoves. Doug has like 20% of the pot left behind in his stack and tanks for 3 minutes or so. Someone calls the clock on him and he sits there. Floor comes over, starts to count down.

When they get to 5-10 seconds left, Doug puts his big chips on top of his stack of chips and pushes it forward (in a dramatic way) just before the line. The line at bellagio for tournaments is binding, but anything that doesn't go over the line doesn't count. So he holds this for 3 seconds looking for a response and the whole table is looking at him saying "WHAT THE ****." The floor is standing RIGHT THERE and says 'hand is dead.' The floor looks at him and says "I have seen that before, you do that again and you get a penalty."

Doug stumbles over his words a bit and claims that he was not trying to angleshoot at all.

Later, the celebration occurs on the river when he makes the nut flush and tries to explain to us that no, it is in fact okay to celebrate in this way because he is ALL IN FOR HIS TOURNAMENT. Duh!

Then I spite shoved over his 3.5x raise with AJ and he called with AK and he stood up and yelled "HOLD," so he was already drawing dead.

I HAVE BUSTED THE DOUG LEE IN THE 25K. ALL SHALL FEAR ME.
