This is why Peter Eastgate is my poker hero. He made about 10 million before he was 25. Travelled the world on pokerstars dime. And then retired.

Johnny, it's strange that all the ones you mention that died broke: Titanic Thompson, Nick the Greek, Stu Ungar, Minnesota Fats, Sailor Roberts.

...well, I've heard of all these guys; they're household names.

The ones you say left $$$ behind and were well bankrolled and had good marriages:
Pat Renfro, Tooter, Iron Drawers Shaw, Dale the Mule, Curly Cavitt, Red Harris, Ed Bradford, and the list goes on and on.

...well I haven't heard of any of these guys!

The key to gambling success: Stay under the radar, don't be too flashy, and play within your bankroll? Oh, and come from a poor background. Seems to go against the "you have to not have respect for the money" consensus you always hear people say is a key to success...

Agreed, not only that, he gets to have a non-poker identity for the rest of his life too. He gets the best of both worlds--he got the WSOP ME rollercoaster and finished first, and he'll probably be happier than most ME winners for a lifetime.

I don't think Chip Reece would've ever gone broke. Neither will Seidel, Lederer, Ferguson, Juanda, Cunningham, Chan, Helmuth, Negranu, Greenstein, Ngyens. They are all too big to fail and don't use any drugs. Age will make them really tight and bulletproof from going broke. I'm not sure about Ivey!

1. Puggy Pearson
2. Roger Moore
3. Chip Reese
4. Ken "What a Player" Smith
5. Bill Boyd
6. Hans "Tuna" Lund
7. Ray Zee

I have a bankroll the finest show horse couldn't jump over. Gambling at cards was not only good to me, it was good to my mother before me.

Gamblers don't have the same feelings about money as other people. I always keep in mind now that I am playing for my family. Same with spending. I don't want material things, but do want money that works at night while I sleep. When silver was in circulation, my mom would get $500 from the bank in dimes, quarters or half dollars and take the silver ones out. That has now made 25 bucks to the buck. In our retirement, we could select our own investment options. I put it all in one mutual fund, Fidelity Growth, for a few years, then Fidelity Contra and it is still riding. The Dot com bubble cost me half my bankroll but it came back. Sept 11 cost me a third of my bankroll but it came back. CDs, Money Market Accounts, EE Bonds, and I bonds don't give much action but they don't lose. Poker is not the only way a real gambler moves money around, always with the best of it. My mantra.

Do you know what a monologue is? This wasn't some kind of soliloquy, besides, do you demand This is what he does, tell stories and anecdotes and such. Some are more interesting than others.

A strangely polarizing poster, it seems. Seems to get a lot of hate and love. I like reading most of his posts, especially compared to most of the crap that doesn't qualify as any type of real news (or interesting gossip). Yeah, he must've typed this one quickly, but it was still intelligible, so ease up about the punctuation. Or don't. I don't care.
