Interesting. I wonder how much it sold for, additionally I wonder what sort of rights/royalties (if any) the coach's retain for their material if it generates revenue for FourCubed in the future....

I think the training sites thing are done, especially with UpswingPoker on the upswing.

Remember watching djsenseis vids back in the day and from holdem the thin red line was mind blowing for a noobie grinder. Just a few months ago checked the site again and most of the stuff is from merge and bodog bovada what the hell it's these days. Atleast I have my memories. It was a good deal when you had the rb tracked to dc and get the membership 'for free'.

Probably not worth 100k with that type of trajectory. Also who is left at Deucescracked? Been so long since I have heard about their coaches.

Wouldn't be terrible for you to throw a bid in for like $10k and just re-direct to your site.

Just my personal opinion, but besides the main issue of a dying market I think there was way too much content. I'm not sure how upswing is designed but a handful of excellent coaches > a zillion new videos a week posted by anyone with an internet connection, which seems to be where it was heading at least a few years ago.

Also depending on the contracts with coaches it wouldn't be a terrible buy at $20-$30k imo.

10k Is way under valueing their business, and also once people realizes it redirects im not sure how much value there is there.

I think poker as a whole is on a very small decline year over year, most of the damage was done in the 2-3 years following black friday. I imagine specifically the poker training space, has increased by 25-50% in the last 12 months compared to the 12 before it.

Why do you think that Doug? What can be done to turn that damange and small decline back to a UPSWING? (see what I did there).

But honestly, I'd love to hear your opinions on if poker as a whole has a chance to hit another upswing (outside of USA being allowed back on Stars/888/PP).

I'm no businessman so have no idea about how much site is worth.

From being a training site member over the years I am susceptible to subscribing for instructors who have a good reputation in the community eg sthief09, janda, aejones or are high stakes players and live a lifestyle to which I aspire eg galfond, doug, sbrugby.

Unfortunately deuces these days has neither things going for it added to close to 0 marketing traction compared to something like Upswing.

You would need an unbelievable community there to help you learn. Especially when every coach on runitonce is happy to answer every q in the comments underneath.

Hey Doug, while you're in the thread:

does Upswing have the same interactivity (whereby you sign up for the lab, watch a vid, have a q and it WILL be answered by the instructor at some point)? I appreciate you are a busy man in general.

I'm no Doug but you have to consider how exciting the game of poker is in comparison to other media, games, content that are available to people these days.

Yes the game is intellectually stimulating and the potential $ you can win is exciting however for creativity at heart it is just a big maths puzzle.

You could argue it is as satisfying to set up a youtube channel and look to create good content as it is to play poker a lot.

I enjoy the game, I enjoy the challenge but I can't imagine the numbers at the Main Event or playing EPT's for example will ever be considerably bigger than presently.

I'm in the Ecom space with great success (more than I'd ever make from poker at my skill level). I can get your printful costs a lot lower and open up some more profit on your merch.

Big fan of yours Doug. Would love to team up if you're interested. I'm also a software dev and handle all my sites on my own.

If you're down for a chat maybe there's some business we can discuss. Feel free to DM me if you're interested.

You don't redirect. You buy the site, email all customers that it's closing but you get a free month at upswing and then shut it down (DC, not upswing).

What you're buying isn't the site, you're buying a very relevant target audience for a very specific marketing campaign. Then it's just a matter of calculating your conversion rates from highly relevant segments and cost of the acquisition and do the math from there. Many companies jump at opportunities like this and pay good money for it.

Forget the current business model, which is clearly in substantial decline and alone absolutely does not justify the asking price. 20k monthly uniques, 100k mailing list, a video library of 4000 videos (so probably at least 2000 hours of poker content?!), a good brand, ten year old domain ... seems like an absolute steal at $100k for say an online poker operator (think DtB acquisition by blackchippoker) or an affiliate with with an established funnel.

Really sad to see a site which had such a big impact basically be a graveyard now.

The database will be of little use IMO. So much of that data will be totally dead/old and heavily US based and many won't even really care about online poker anymore.

But if anyone can make it useful, then Doug can - throw in a bid just to see what you can achieve thru it!

lol 100k

just hire the existing coaches, pay them the same, make a new site and you have copy/pasted the same business for 1k. brand value is almost worthless too.

im surprised at how little money they made. i wonder how much RIO makes nowadays.

mailing list is prob worth 1k (but you can sell up to 10k if you find the right buyer), video library is kind of worthless i assume, brand is pretty worthless too. not sure why a domain would be expensive just because its 10 years old.
