Another interesting prospect, Peerplays, which has applied for DAO funding:

http://cointelegraph.com/news/peerpl...llion-dao-fund

"The startup refers to itself as a DAC, a decentralized autonomous co-op, as in addition to the system of stakeholder voting that drives the DAO, Peerplays also distributes a percentage of its fees to members through an automatic profit-sharing payout programme."

Goes down just as fast, I guess. Lost 30% of it's value today, at $14.

If this were a stock, I'd say it's time to buy more. I'm just going to watch for now though.

It looks like someone is pretty serious about it:

http://www.pokerium.io

I'd been noodling with this concept after learning of Ethereum recently and googled 'ethereum poker' and found that.

I contacted them to see if they want help developing it. If feasible this could effectively put every poker room on the planet out of business.

Imagine, a global, decentralized poker room with no rake. Anyone and everyone can play and cash out instantly. Nirvana.

An inauspicious beginning:

"Sorry, the website www.pokerium.io cannot be found"

However much I like the potential for smart contracts and blockchain technology in gaming and betting, poker will be the toughest row to hoe,

If you think it will operate with zero revenue, where is the incentive to build/market/run/maintain it ?.

Remember also, if it ain't more entertaining than the effort required to participate, people will not play it.

There are many things that started out with zero revenue (eg, Linux; Wikipedia; etc.) and people just contributed because they enjoyed it.

I imagine that there are other open-source games that people build and play.

There are several impressive open-source programs, individual efforts as well as collaborations. The challenge for internet poker is that it does appear to benefit greatly from financial incentives that attract new players and encourage existing players to deposit again, and discouraging multi-accounting and colluding.

I like this idea very much and would like to contribute. PM me if you're someone working on this.

Not too sure who is kidding who.

If "someone" is "pretty serious " about pokerium.io, the least he could do is actually create the domain name you are supposedly linking to, or you can buy it yourself for $59.99. It's available right now:

Thanks for the correction,I just went with what was posted earlier above.

Checked out the link you gave, looked thru the white paper linked there as well.

While I have a generally high tolerance for reading geek-speak, and would love to see Ethereum-powered gaming markets, I think this game launch you predict will need massively re-tooled marketing to succeed in attracting players.

About 4 years ago, the SatoshiDice game accounted for an on-godly percentage of all bitcoin blockchain transactions. The game was simple and basically used that blockchain as its game engine. You did not need to know crap about the game engine or the blockchain, all you needed was some bitcoin to play. However, SD was a heads-up wager against the house, not a multi-player P2P game. Speed of play was not an issue; that is not the case with operating poker.

I'll be glad to give this beta launch a try, as long as I can find me some ETH on the internets with which to play.

Anyone familiar with bitcoin may be aware of Ethereum as well. If not I highly suggest you educate yourself on Ethereum as many believe this will be the future of the internet. It has also been a phenomenal investment opportunity as ETH started this year trading under $10 and is currently $211

What do you guys think, can this be the future of online poker? Could this bring down the traditional poker sites like pokerstars who mistreat their users thinking they have a monopoly on the industry?

^ This is just one company of many working on poker apps (dapps actually) on the ethereum network.

It seems like a duplicate poker game could work well on a blockchain. The mechanics are turn-based and users play asynchronously. A standard hold'em cash game on a blockchain might not work as well since it would require real-time processing and players would be waiting for their crypto after each hand. Not sure how many runners are waiting for a duplicate game to open up though
