Guess if Daniel stands a better chance of winning the bet when there's fewer people participating, and he was trying to encourage more people to sign up to play - maybe is there a chance he might be making more from his ownership than he may lose with the $50k? PS. SrslySirius, just saw your comment about disclosure - yeah, maybe there should be a bit more, not sure? Have seen even GrumpyCat be quite careful about adding #ad to Friskies commercials, etc.
