Re: Daniel negreanu second annual fantasy draft

Grunching, but upon first glance at the rules, there were a few things i didn't understand:
- Was the pool of players that was going to be bid on fixed before the draft? Or could you nominate anyone you wanted when your turn to nominate came up?
- If it was an open-nomination process, why not overpay for the premium players you were positive were playing a near-full schedule, and then fill out the back-end with lower-tier guys who you also knew were playing a full-schedule?
- In a nutshell: given the scoring format, isn't actual talent <<<<<<<<<< # of events played? Daniel Alaei went for $49 (!!!)...and only played 7 events. Isn't a middling player who's playing in 20+ tournies exponentially greater value?

Re: Daniel negreanu second annual fantasy draft

Looks like only one of the top three can win: Mercier, R. Mizrachi, or Brunson et. al.

Mercier is leading and still has:

J. Mercier
S. Shorr
B. Richey

R. Mizrachi is second and still has:

B. Parker
S. Deeb

Brunson et. al are in third and still have:

A. Eslami
B. Lamb

A final 18 finish will be needed for someone to overtake Mercier. Top 18 will be worth at least 61 points. If one of these three has a top 18 finish and no one else does, they will win.

Current standings available here: http://www.25kfantasy.com/teamInfo.php

Re: Daniel negreanu second annual fantasy draft

I still don't understand this bidding / scoring system at all.

Isn't anyone you suspect is going to play fewer than 10 tournies undeniably lighting money on fire?

Even $1 for, say, Blom is a total waste if he's only gonna play a handful of events, and you could have spent that same $1 on some grinder who'll play 20.

(Unless i'm missing something v fundamental...)

I think you are right. It seems like given the rules, it's much more valuable to draft players that are going to play lots of events. The most valuable player could have a mediocre/breakeven series.

And to answer your question from your earlier post, each team took turns at nominating players to be bid on (i.e. no predetermined pool of players).

Re: Daniel negreanu second annual fantasy draft

If I'm right about that, then there's just a crapton of inefficiency / dead $ in this pool.
There's no point in spending more than $1 on anyone before ascertaining that they're playing at least, say, 20 events. You'd rather have Joe Average-Grinder Schmo playing 30 events than Ivey playing 5. There's got to be something I'm missing here, b/c otherwise there's no reason someone couldn't own this with no more than a few phone calls. Who's spending a quarter of their budget on Dwan before ascertaining he's playing more than a handful of events??
Something's not adding up here...
