Re: Daniel Negreanu a Racist?
WTF
Didnt read the actual blog but the parts quoted in the article are the opposite of racist imo.
He points out that the name BET could be considered racist or at least would be if it was WET. Also he doesn't like the fact that black people in america are singled out as African-Americans when a person of any other origin born in America is just American.
He is basically pointing out inequalities based on race (imo this is the essence of racism) that he disagrees with.

It was taken from us. That's one of the side effects of slavery--in the US. It's different in Brazil. Since Brazil has the highest population of African descendants of the world, a lot of African traditions are still intact, the foundation of the predominant Brazilian culture. Coupled with the fact that Africa is a freaking massive continent will many nations and cultures, it really does make no sense to me. As a wise man said, "If you don't know where you came from, you won't know where you're going."I could understand 1st, or even 2nd generation immigrants in a country referring to themselves as belonging to both nations, but seems strange when it labels a person who themselves, their parents, their parents, and perhaps their parents, were all US born and bred. I appreciate the racial issues of the past, but even still the idea of 'African-American' makes little sense to me

But the "racial issues of the past" haven't been exactly dealt with, considering Blacks have MOSTLY attained BASIC equality afforded by the constitution ONLY 45 years ago. And if you studied U.S. History, you know that's not even two generations ago--which isn't that long. Problem is a lot of White people--not all but a lot--think it should be forgotten, and not deal with the effects.

Perhaps its just as ignorant to assume no black people would
give a crap.

Re: Daniel Negreanu a Racist?
Daniel is Canadian and his parents are from Romania. At no time did his people ever oppress African-Americans so he doesn't have to feel the white guilt and therefore be overly sensitive to African Americans. Also, he is from Toronto which is a very multi-cultural city.
As far as the Gates thing....he's just an uppity colored person looking for an excuse to throw out the race card. Don't forget the cab driver was helping him break in his own house so that would make it a little more suspicious. Also, there was a black cop there who said that everything the officers did was on the up and up.
And monti, quit bringing up this mostly equality just 45 years ago stuff...you know that's a lie. In parts of the deep south it may be true but everywhere else in this country blacks have been free and equal for a very long time...more than enough time to stop complaining about it.

Re: Daniel Negreanu a Racist?
Not a lie. Can't help it if the truth hurts. Even in the North they had the drama then too. So stop being naive.
Thank you for proving my point, though.

Don't think I would agree with this (and im white). You still
hear some random ignorant racist comments which are
directed at many nationalities (including whites). But
the scars still remain as the sensitivity of the issue
shows.
I just saw a screenname on Shaun Deebs table last night
on FullTilt : IPwnBlacksandJaps
Don't ask me how that one got past FT employees.

This. That network has been around for like 30 years, and DN has this epiphany that's been hashed out ad nauseum since the network's inception, then blogs about it thinking he's got some insight no one's ever thought/heard about before?

Re: Daniel Negreanu a Racist?
I agree with DN 100%. I've wondered the same for years now. Why is it OK to name a channel "BLACK Entertainment Television." White people would get completely pummeled if they tried a stunt like that. I'm hispanic and unbiased toward the subject just my opinion. Anyway, DN is far from racist.

Re: Daniel Negreanu a Racist?
i could not really find one racist comment in the article.
i don't know daniel gives his opinion on BET's name and the term African - American. his comments were very tame and uninteresting.
where is there any racist comment?

Negraneau's blog wasn't racist at all (in fact I think it's really dumb to argue that it was). The post I quoted on the other hand...
I mean, wtf is with this 'uppity colored person' bull****? Could you sound like any more of a douchebag? And do you really think blacks have had full equality since 1964? There's no doubt that it's better now than it was then, but racism certainly exists today, and probably as much as ever. It's just not something that is publicly accepted like back in the day.
