I never really got why some players feel the urgency to use mind altering substances on every break while playing for huge sums of money, especially if others have a financial interest.
This seems to be a daily routine in the wsop outdoor parking lot as well.
You know when you're at a party and you're really drunk, and you're having a face to face, one on one conversation with someone, and you have tunnel vision - the only thing you are focused on is the person infront of you? Everything else, all the background noise, isn't registering with you.
I once (well, not once) got this drunk playing an online tourney and that's what happened. I was only in tune with the screen, and out of 10,000 players I finished 2nd (FTP's daily dollar). In one way I was drunk and I had to watch myself, and in another way I was very intently focused.
I drink and take codeine (mild opiate, converts to morphine in the brain) to make online tourneys not only bearable, but fun. I also sometimes get into a state of total clarity where the course of action is very clear, I feel I know exactly what to do, and poker seems easy. I also have anxiety issues and those substances help to calm my nerves. it's no fun when you're really nervous for a prolonged period of time. I have at times felt like i couldn't handle the pressure and possibly trying to bust on purpose so the anxiety stops.
On the other hand, I've tried smoking weed while playing and I can't play well at all on weed - I am totally dopey and throw caution to the wind and bust out very quickly.
I would like to try adderal.
