Thac confirmed that the LookingForProdigy account originated from the same IP as the one Girah posted from.

Having a small percentage of yourself is not uncommon practice amongst high stakes players. Ike posted not long after that saying that, on one occasion, he had as little as 10% of his own action.

Even if he only had 5% of the action, if the money is gone because of hacking or robbery, he would still be responsible to paying back the 95% of the bankroll to the other backers. The money was given to be used for poker and he is responsible for keeping it safe for its given use.

I mean I think at this point its kind of obvious that there was manipulated hype behind the Girah superstar persona but that pretty much cements it

Re: Cliff notes of the 'Portuguese Poker Prodigy' Jose "Girah" Macedo scam
To those of you who "don't see a motive" or are baffled as to why perhaps the best player in the world would feel the need to scam players, I must ask, are you seriously that naive?
Why did Barry Bonds or Roger Clemens feel the need to take steroids? You have to understand that people who do this type of thing are not you. They have their own issues and their 10-15 million dollar net worth might be nothing in their minds, whereas, if we poor folks had that much, most of us would be more than satisfied to just sit on it and game select. As far as motives, here are just a few:
1. Money. Pretty obvious. When you run up a steadily increasing bankroll at faster and faster rates for millions of dollars in a matter of just 2-3 years, you expect to keep making more and more. Contrary to popular belief, for the vast majority of us, no amount of money is quite enough to feel set for life.
2. Games drying up. "No action" is a serious issue for online players. This has been mentioned at other times in this thread, but people looking for a motive tend to ignore it for whatever reason. Even midstakes players go through dry spells, and when it gets really bad, certain personality types will be tempted to take drastic measures.

Seems like he's also brought up a theory Kotkis (who's had no contact whatsoever with Jose - I know Kotkis very well but have never mentioned the theory to Jose) came up with about HU play and made it look like his own to another high-stakes player.
Will get back to you on this.

and just imagine how lucrative it would be to pass off an 18-year-old, good-looking European wiz kid as your protegy. $2K an hour for coaching while riding an exercise bike is a pretty sweet gig.

Re: Cliff notes of the 'Portuguese Poker Prodigy' Jose "Girah" Macedo scam
I must admit, I'm disappointed in the NVG mods (esp ones arguing with skeptics) for failing to disclose that lookingforprodigy & Girah were the same IP.
Not that I needed the help figuring it out, but pointing it out sure would have kept the nuthuggers from stifling the debate - and perhaps given enough doubt to potentially save someone from being victimized
